Looking for Pfohl's from Chicago, Il., curtiss, Wi. and German Bohemia.

It looks to me like there at least four Pfohl families in the U.S. The one I decend from is from Bohemia and came here in 1791 to North Carolina. There is another family centered in New York, one in Iowa, and one in Montana. My father's family lived in Chicago problbly 1920 to 1950. The major part of the family lived in North Carolina though.

Don't know about anyone in N Car. but my grandfather Walter Pfohl had 1 Sister Martha and a brother that lived in chicago don't know his name but he had 3 daughters Helda, Marie & Flora and 2 sons but don't know abt them either. Johann Pfohl my Great grandfather lived in Chicago then in Curtis,Wi. He was a China painter. Thats abt all I know about any one. boy do I need the help.

When I was a kid growing up in Iowa, I remember attending several Pfohl family reunions in Eagle Point Park, in Dubuque. My great-grandfather Joseph Habel, was married to Lena Pfohl.

Janet, My family is from Chicago. A large family of 7 children of Harold Pfohl and Emma Davis (of Kentucky)...Must be some connection, huh?

To my knowledge, there appear to be four different Pfohl families in the U.S. My came first to North Carolina in 1791 from Bohemia. One other may have also come from Bohemia. The other two came from the Alsace region of France/Germany. One settled in New York state near Buffalo and Syracuse. One settled in Iwoa, and one settled in Montana. I have a pretty good handle on the North Carolina group, but I have not encountered anyone strong in geneology in the other groups to put the whole U.S. Pfohl picture together. Don Pfohl

My Pfohls were also in the Dubuque area. My grandparents Eldon and Jeanne Clemens may know you. I wonder how your Lena fits in. Do you have any dates?
|
Unfortunately, I do not have dates. I would guess Lena Pfohl was born in the 1880's or 1890's, but I don't know where. However, Clemens sounds like a surname I have heard or seen somewhere before. John

I think there is another Pfohl family here in the US. My Pfohl's first settled in Evansville, Vanderburg Co. Ind. The first Pfohl I have is Xavier Pfohl who married Helena Steinhause from Mannheim. i have 2 children, Frances Pfohl and Mary Catherine Pfohl who married Nicolas Kapps in Evansville, Ind. in 1848. My Pfohl's were Catholic. In Germany, sometimes religion helps to connect families. Hope you can help.

That answers a question that I have had for a long time. My ancestor were in Indiana (Hope near Columbus) from 1836 until about 1880 or so. I knew there were others there, but I knew they were not from the same family. Do you know if any of your ancestor were among those who moved to Chicago? I know there were some of mine there, but there was another family as well. It is nice to know that Xavier was the first in that family in the U.S. I will use that as a starting place and see what I can come up with. I tend to collect information about all of the Pfohl people I find and try to sort them out later. I will keep you in mind whenever I might find something out. Thanks. Don
