Obituary from Wellsville Daily Reporter: Laurence J. Pflager Wellsville - Laurence J. Pflager, 88, formerly of Fords Brook Road, died Friday (Nov 7, 1986) at Wellsville Highland Nursing Home. A native of Wellsville, he was a son of Alert and Helena Hauser Pflager. In 1920 in Baltimore, he married Sweetheart Wroten, who died in 1953. In 1954 in Wellsville, he married Evangeline Gordon Mayer, who died in 1985. He was a graduate of Wellsville High School. He was a pattern maker for the former Kerr Turbine Company and the co-owner and business manager of the Allegany County Democrat. He served for six terms as Wellsville town clerk and he was the advertising manager for the Wellsville Daily Reporter until his retirement in 1963. He was an Army veteran of World War I, wounded during the Hindenburg Line Offensive and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. A charter member of Lodge No. 1495 B.P.O.E., he was past district deputy, past grand exaulted ruler in 1961. He was a member of the Morrison-Hayes Post No. 702 American Legion for 65 years, where he served as past commander and past eighth district adjudant. In 1940 he served as chef-de-gare of Allegany Voiture 40 & 8 post No. 1006. He was a past member of the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce and the Wellsville Rotary Club. He was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church, serving on its vestry and as past president of its men's club. He was named in Who's Who in Allegany County in 1938. Survivors include two daughters Rachael Bellows of Waterloo and Virginia Covil of Keuka Lake; a step daughter, Mary Ruth Branigan of Amhurst; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a niece, and a nephew.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today at the Embser Funeral Home in Wellsville where a funeral service will be at 10:30 am Monday with Rev. John Mitka officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville. An Elks memorial service will be at 7:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
