I would like to correspond with researchers of ANY of the Pfiffner families. My family is primarily from Dubuque, Iowa but I have been unable to trace 3 of the sons that immigrated with the family in 1843 and think they may have moved elsewhere and started another line that I have been unable to find. I have considerable info about my direct family in the U.S. and older members in Weisstannen, Switzerland. Happy to share info. Any contact welcomed.

I have a Martin Pfiffner 1809-1889 wife was Marianna 1817--1897. They had 3 children Marthina, Albert and Mary. I believe they may have settled in Dubuque for a while until moving to Guttenberg which is where they are buried. Marthina married a Martin Meyer. Our Pfiffners may be from Switzerland or Germany, we don't know for sure.

I have found reference to your Martin in some records but have not established any relationship to my family. I have had some research done in Weisstannen, Switzerland and find no Martin in any of those records. Since they were in Dubuque and then Guttenberg, there is a good chance that they entered the U.S. through New Orleans and came up the Mississippi before settling. I found mine in the passenger lists for that port of entry. My family entered in 1843. Sorry we don't have a connection.

Do you have any info. on Gustav(e) Pfiffner? He married Augusta Thamann and they had 13 children and they lived in Guttenberg, IA. He worked in the lumberyard until they opened the canning factory. Looking for anything beyond or in addition to Gustave. Their children were: Ray, Bill, Alfred, Edmund, Joe, Cyril, Roman, Leo, Delphine,Regina, Marie, and Frances. One additional daughter, Clara, died of black fever or diptheria as a small child. Edmund would be my great-grandfather.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Andrea

Sorry, Andrea, I don't have any info about that family. Although I have heard of this family, it is a different line than mine. My family was from Dubuque, Iowa. What time period was this family? Were they immigrants? I have some rather extensive church records from Weisstannen, Switzerland. If they came from there, I'd be happy to check my records and see if they are included in any of the records I have.

Darn! Well, thanks for looking. I had heard that they came from Switzerland but beyond what I have, I can't seem to find a link. I remember a priest in Dubuque who was a Pfiffner that my grandmother told me was related to her but maybe he was from the Guttenberg Pfiffners...I don't know. Thanks anyway, I'll keep looking.

Hello!

In 1843 I believe a Fransizka Pfiffner came over with your family from Switzerland. She is listed along with several other Pfiffners. Do you have any knowledge about her, either from your reseach in Switzerland, or here in the states? She may have lived for a time with the Pfiffner who married a Tschirgi. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JoanneinSC: Yes, I have some info about Franziska up to the time of her arrival in US and her husband's name. She was not in my direct line so I have not expanded my research on this name. I also have the name of a researcher in her direct line that I corresponded with in 2000. Contact me directly off this board and I'll be happy to share what I have. What do you have and what do you need? my email is
