Hello, Tom -
My mother and her father and grandfather, etc., were Pfefferles in NW and central Ohio, including Sidney, Columbus, Kenton, Dunkirk, West Mansfield, perhaps others. Our Ohio Pfefferle branch's original home in Ohio was in Sidney. The original Sidney Pfefferle couple migrated to Sidney just after the Civil War from West Virginia, and had arrived in West Virginia a few years prior to the Civil War from Karlsruhe, Germany, or vicinity. My mother's father was Walter R. Pfefferle, the oldest child of Karl Pfefferle, who had 15 children born to him in Sidney. Karl married twice, the second time after his first wife died in Sidney. My mother's name was Josephine E. Pfefferle. Her brother was McKee S. "Mack" Pfefferle. Their mother was Mary ("Mamie" or "Mayme") McKee.
Descendants of the original Sidney Pfefferles migrated to several places in Ohio, as well as to Michigan (Detroit area), Indiana, Idaho, and California. A good number of the males in the second and third generations of Sidney Pfefferles, including Walter and McKee plus others in those two generations were optometrists. All of the first, second, and third generations of the Sidney Pfefferles are now deceased, along with some of those in follow-on generations. At age 81 (a month shy of 82), I think I may now be the oldest living descendant of the Sidney, Ohio, branch of Pfefferles.
My name is Thomas A. Muntsinger, son of John S. Muntsinger. Our original Muntsinger immigrant ancestor came to America from Alsace (France), also prior to the Civil War. He was a Muntzinger (spelled with a "z" rather than an "s") but changed the spelling of the name not long after his arrival in the country and having settled in Marion County, Ohio. My father, his father, and my two siblings and I were all born in Marion, Ohio. So the city of Marion was the Muntsinger counterpart of the Pfefferle's Sidney, Ohio.
I have not been active for a some few years in my genealogical research, making entries in and updating my software data base, and the like, and am far behind in doing all of that. At this moment (as always) I am a bit busy but do need to get back into this work when I can. Hence, the reason I happen to log onto Ancestry.com this afternoon to take advantage of its 14-day free trial. I now live in Long Beach, California, and have lived here since 1987.
I assume that our Pfefferle ancestors are somehow related, as I don't think there are many Pfefferles in Ohio.
Best regards,
Tom (
