Michael was my nephew. The last I had heard from him was when he lived in California. He would call me from time to time trying to "borrow" money. When I refused, he quit calling. My sister, his mother, was Jerrene DeBray Bickham. Jerre was married to Paul Johnson and they lived in Silver Spring, MD at Summit Hills. My wife, Betty and I lived in Rosemary Hills when I was going to college. Jerre died in Boca Raton, FL on July 7, 2001. I have no idea what happened to Paul Johnson (nicknamed PJ). The last I saw of him was in Boca Raton prior to my sister's passing. Signed, Thomas DeBray, Punta Gorda, FL (k4krj3@aol.com)

Hi Renee. I'm Bill Pfaffenberger from Avon, IN and I think that I have the information for you. Your grandfather Robert's father (your great grandfather) was Ferris Newton Pfaffenberger. He was a brother to Clarence J. Pfaffenberger who was the author of "The New Knowledge of Dog Behavior." You are a descendant of Andrew Pfaffenberger who brought his large family to America in 1837. I have written a small book on Andrew and his offspring. You linage to Andrew is as follows: Andrew => John Conrad => Newton J. => Ferris Newton => Robert => Your father. My chapters on Andrew and then John Conrad will fill you in on the early history. Here is the link to the information: http://www.pfaffenberger.org/pfaffenberger_history.htm
Pfaffenberger surname

My mother, Anna Elfriede Pfaffenberger, came to the U.S. in 1948 to marry. She was from a little village called Enchenreuth in Bavaria, Germany. There are many Pfaffenbergers still there today. We grew up in and around Atlanta, Georgia. I am truly surprised at the number of Pfaffenbergers in that area, as I was unaware of them when I lived there. My sister and I are working on our family history and are interested in any other Pfaffenbergers who might have emigrated from the same area of Germany.

etymology of Pfaffenberger

Yes, I know a little. In German it means "priest's mountain". There was a town of Pfaffenberg in Germany about halfway between Landschut Regensberg which burned to the ground in 1733. All records were lost. But the area was joined with a nearby market town of Mallersdorf which shows on the map. (Sometimes Pfaffenberger shows also).

Thanks Julie for sharing what you know about the surname origins. We had thought it might have originated in Austria area, but I had no idea what it meant. BTW, did you learn that from a book on the surname or from your own research. Thanks again, Tamarah

Sorry everyone I mistyped that as entymology instead of etymology. :-)

Here is what I've learned about children of George + Kate Pfaffenberger: one infant daughter born in 1903, Ella Barbara Margarita (1904-1969), Carl Friedrich (1906-1960), Martin Heinrich (1909-1959), George Christian (1912-1990), Luther (1914-1921), and Katherine (b.1916) still living.
Pfaffenberger - Origin

Tamarah:

That is a question, that many are still working on the answer, including me. In my work career I frequently traveled throughout Europe.

Some information indicates that the family came from a hamlet named: Ulmet, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, which is near Kusel.

Other information points to a village named: Pfaffenberg, Bayern, Germany, which is near Mallersdorf.

In summary, even though I still have friends in the Netherlands and Germany with whom I exchange information, as of this date I do not know the answer. The only thing I am certain of is that they were "Palatines", which narrows the possible origins.

Needless to say if you ever find the answer, I too would like to know.

Ed Puffinbarger
jerp@advertisnet.com

PFAFFENBERGER INFO.

Also, Carl Pfaffenberger and Katie Elizabeth Long met and married in Louisiana (I believe New Orleans). I believe Katie was born there (parents Jn Long and Mary O. Neely). Carl Pfaffenberger was born in Gillette, Arkansas. The dates escape me right now, I'll try and locate them and post here. Feel free to email me at genealogy911@hotmail.com.

Pfaffenberger/Goller

George Pfaffenberger's son, Carl Pfaffenberger then married Katie Elizabeth Long. They had two children - Carl and Patti. Carl Pfaffenberger the first died of colon cancer when Patti was about 12 yrs old. She is now named Patti Crawford (married Mike Crawford Sr) and living in Willis, TX. I married her son, Michael Crawford Jr - we are now divorced. However, we have two children, so I am still researching their family history for my little girls. Anyways, the majority of this Pfaffenberger line is living in Indiana now. Patti and Carl do not have any other relationship with the other Pfaffenbergers, as their father and mother moved away to Louisiana (where he met his wife, Katie) - then to Texas (where their children were born). Katie died a couple of years ago in Houston/Spring, Texas of cancer. I would love to get more information on what you have on this line. I am starting over, as I lost most of it when I got divorced and am interested in preserving this history for my children. Please email me at genealogy911@hotmail.com anytime, or write at 8736 Wilcrest Drive; Houston, TX 77099. Thank you for anything you can help me with; I'll be happy to answer more information if I can.

PFAFFENBERGER in TX

Am looking for any information on a connection to my mother's half sister, Verna Dannelley and Charles Pfaffenberger in Lamesa, Texas. I found where she gave birth to a son in 1927, but have found very little else about her other than what I found on the 1910 and 1920 Texas Census'. Would like to know where she is buried and the date she died. I can be reached at sandycamp@earthlink.net. Thanks
