Attached is a rendering of the Pezet Coat of Arms.

In a field of gules [red], a band of gold accompanied by four crescents of silver, one on top and three on the bottom.

Any heraldry scholars out there who can shed some light on the orgin of this blazon or the symbolism of the charges (band of gold & crescents)? It is believed to have originated in France around the mid 13th Century under the reign Saint Louis.

Hello

I was very interested in you coat of arms, as I managed to buy a Pezet coat of arms and write up. Having spoken to a friend of mine, a Michael Pezet, he was saying obviously each Pezet family must have their own coat of arms. So the one that I have is not necessarily for my family. The one I have is mid blue and yellow gold, three feathers at the top of the helmet, with swirls of yellow and blue (like large feathers)coming down the sides, the shield has small blue and yellow diamond shapes in. My family originated in southern France, Agen, Bordeaux area then moved to Phalsbourg, then had a leather business in the Palais Royal in Paris.

As you say I think it really needs someone who has studied coats of arms, as there are a lot of Pezet families from different regions in France, and the Coat of Arms I have is probably nothing to do with my family. My great grandfather was French Charles Pezet, and he was the one who worked in the Palais Royal in Paris with his brother. My grandfather James Pezet was educated in France, but then came to England to live, I believe to be with his mother, who was English. I seem to have come to a dead end though with my great grandfather, even though I have been to France.

I hope you have some luck with you coat of arms.

Regards
Valerie Anne Pezet

Dear Valerie,
It is always a pleasure to "meet" a member of another line of the Pezet family with roots in France. Some time long ago, I suspect, we may have shared a common ancestor.
Though I am unfamilar with the coat of arms you describe, I am pretty sure that the important elements are the design on the shield -- the blue and yellow diamonds and how they are arranged. The helmet and feathery flourishes are typically embelishments used to frame the coat of arms. Does the Pezet "write up" you mentioned include a written description of the arms and its origins? I would be interested in reading about it.
Aside from the Pezet from the Languedoc region and Narbonne, from which my branch descends, there is a related Pezet branch from Corval in Normandy that uses the colors blue and yellow in their arms. The crest features a silver hunting horn beneath three yellow (gold) stars in a field of blue and a field of yellow along the bottom third of the shield.

How many generations back can you trace your family in France? When and why did your grandfather move to England? If you care to, it would be interesting to know a little more about your line as Pezets from all over the world are known to drop in here occassionally.

As you can see from the messages on this board, there are Pezet lines that emigrated to Peru in the 1700s, Panama in the 1800s, the United States and Mexico, and, of course, the Channel Islands and UK.
While I was born in the States to a Pezet from Argentina (whose father was born in Peru), I also have an British connection, that I am actively researching. My great-great grandfather, Federico Pezet Tirado, married an English dame, Elizabeth Emma Eastted, in London in 1857 during a period when he was serving as a Peruvian diplomat.

Best regards and a safe and Happy New Year to you.

Peter.

Hello Peter,
I am Trevor Pezet from Australia and was intrigued to find the forum board on your coat of arms discussion with Valerie...in particular your reply comment about the blue and yellow colouring with the horn - this is the exact shield we have hanging on our wall in Australia...we trace back to Normandy and the Channel islands...was quite astonsihed to read your comments about our exact coat of arms...we are descendants of a Peter Mesney Pezet born 1839 in Alderney (channel islands) whose son Peter John Pezet born 1861 in Guernsey (ch islands) who later moved to Australia...Any comments would be appreciated..

Regards

Trevor

Greetings Trevor,

The arms in question (horn with stars) apparently belonged to a Pezet de Corval line in the Normandy region of France. I am not well versed in their genealogy or history. However, I have some information and suggestions. First check out the Ancestry.com board on coats of arms, where some years ago, this specific subject came up. Hopefully, this link will work for you: http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.heraldry/578/mb.ashx?pnt=1

Otherwise, you could get there via - Message Boards > Topics > Coat of Arms & Heraldry > Pezet Coat of Arms

I posted a very short item on that board about the Pezet de Corval from a book written in Spanish in the 1960s by a relative called the Pezet in Peru.

As for Pezets from the Channel Islands, I believe some members of that clan have posted to this Pezet board in the past and they may be able to help you.

Ancestry.com also has an entry in German from Siebmacher’s Wappenbuch which shows a different blazon (arms) for the Pezet de Corval with a text description. I've attached that to this post in case you want to try to translate the German.
Good luck in your investigations and please share any findings you make with others who may visit this board.
Regards, Peter

Thanks Peter - and indeed the link has provided a mountain of information as I can see you also encountered...The lineage we have so far, not my work I'm afraid, is from my great GF Peter Mesney (s is silent) Pezet, who was born in Alderney (CH Is.) - his parents James (1798) and Mary were from Alderney and seemed to have moved out to Australia in the mid 1800's....have you seen a picture of the coat of arms we've discussed?...yellow and blue with the hunting horn? I'll try to get an image of it - we've got a shield hanging on the wall at home..thanks for the prompt reply...
