I have done more research on Peyrefitte and have found the following: My gr grandfather, Mathieu Roques had a daughter Augustine Matilda from his first wife Jeanne Jalambic. Last week I received Mathieu's birth certificate from Prat, St. Girons, Dept of Ariege, France. His father was Bernard Roques, farmer, and his mother was Jeanne Marie Peyrefite. Augustine Matilda married Gregory Peyrefite and attached to the marriage certificate was a note written by the priest (in New Orleans), stating Augustine Roques and Gregory Peyrefite were 4th cousins. That ties Gregory to French Peyrefitte's..
Their first two children were born out of the US. First son, Felix, was born in Honduras Sept. 1881 and the 1900 New Orleans Census states his father, Gregory Georgio Peyrefite, was from Mexico. Gregory's father was Louis B. Peyrefite and mother Saturnina Villafana (uncertain of the spelling of his mother's name).
I was told by someone in the family that Gregory made frequent trips to Belize and I recall my grandmother telling me her sister Augustine lived in Belize when she was first married in 1879. Augustine and Gregory were married in New Orleans July 24, 1879. Maybe Gregory was working in Belize at the time.. (I cannot find census, city directories or births tying Augustine and Gregory to New Orleans until 1885 when a son Gonzalo Augusto was born. Other children were Louis, b. 1882, (cannot find his birth records in New Orleans so he may have been born in Honduras) Rosalie Hortense, b. 1889; Marino b. 1887, d. 1890; Carmela Elvira b. 1892; Marino Francis, b. 1895, and Claudio (Claude) b. 1898. Some of those names I have found in Belize Family Search. I am interested in any information about the Peyrefitte's.
I posted a query in 2000 but have changed my email to
