I would like to know all about 'Peyrefitte' how they came from France and settled in New Orleans. It was said that the last name was actually 'Lafayette' maybe that might help.

I, too, would like to know about the Peyrefitte family. My gr aunt Augustine Mathilda Roques married Gregory Peyrefitte in 1879 in New Orleans, had 6 children that I know of. Either Gregory or his son Gonzales was in the coffee business and lived in Balize at one time. I have never come across any other Peyrefittes. How did you know the name was Lafayette?
Augustine was the oldest and my grandmother the youngest child of Mathieu Roques from Prat, France. So sorry I did not ask more questions about the family.

I am a Peyrefitte from Belize Central America. There are several Peyrefitte families living in Belize who are all related. I have often wondered how my family arrived in Belize. My father told me a story of his father travelling from Monterey Mexico to Belize. I have done a little research on the name Peyrefitte in Mexico, but could not find anything on Peyrefitte but quite a few families named Peyrefite. A now exiled Mexican Politician by the name of Peyrefite was once governor of the state of Quintana Roo. It is very surprising to discover that there are Peyrefittes living in New Orleans who are not decendants of the Belizean Peyrefittes. The Belizean Peyrefiites have decendants living all over the United States. It would be refreshing to know the origin of the Peyrefitte name from a non-Belizean point of view. The posibilites of the name Peyrefitte stemming from the word Lafayette is new to me. I have encountered literature indicating that the word Peyrefitte actually means 'rock'. And there is or was actually a small town in France by the name of Peyrefitte.

I emailed Dr. Ashton Peyrefitte but he did not reply. I am sure he is the son of Ashton Gregory Peyrefitte from New Orleans, deceased, and a descendent of Gregory Peyrefitte and Gonzales Peyrefitte.
Gregory married my gr aunt Augustine Roques and they lived in Belize. One son, Felix was born in Honduras about 1881. The marriatge license of Gregory states he was a native of Mexico. Any light that can be shed on the Peyrefittes is appreciated.
I have seen the name spelled with one "t" and two "t".
