Hi!
I am looking for a Peynado whose ancestors migrated to Jamaica, West Indies in the 19th century. I have details on some birth dates and names but would like to make the link overseas to their relatives. Apparently Sephradim Jews.
The Peynado arrived in Jamaica with two Daughters, Frances and Sarah that we know. We do not know his name. The last to pass on was Sarah in 1944! at about 103 or 104 years old!! and not a single family member wrote down her ancestry. I started my project in 1974! Please I need help :-)

Peynado

If you could give futher details to where in JA they settled then it may be easier to narrow things down and other connected family.

Your grandparents are very much alive and reside (though apart) in Jamaica.Uncle G is better known to me and we both share the same birthdate and love for classical music.Though I would be cautios in saying much more or making any preumptions, I would just mention that your great-grand parents had lived into their nineties and passed on in the 1990s.Mother,who was my grand-mother, was a champion woman ahead of her times, educated,a devout christian and had moved from Westmorland to Kingston when many would have stayed put.

Peynado are found throughout some of the Spanish-speaking Caribbean and seem also to be of spanish-jewish origin. I have assumed that, like so many spanish jews in the Caribbean region, we were amongst some of the first set of settlers from Europe, during and following the year 1492 when the monarchy expelled all jews from Spain - the very year in which Columbus set sail for the New World. We appear to belong to interesting family, who from my father's own lips, have told of stories told to him as a youngster - of the many grand parties given on various estates in the glorious days of our colonial past. They are very astute with figures, accounting, engineering and the like..........alas, most are like most people, good horse-sense and hard-working. I have always been proud of my maiden name/family ties.

Good luck with your search.
