I am a descendant of William Pewthers. I didn't not know he was a doctor, however. I know more about his son to the present. His son was Daniel Porter Pewthers. The 1850 Census has William's wife, Elizabeth, living with their daughter Elizabeth, son Daniel, and her father Henry Tharp in Milton, Ohio. I assume William is dead. I hope to hear from you because you seem to have more information about William's parents and siblings than I do.

All the info I have on William's son, "Porter," says that his first name was David, not Daniel. Ancestry has indexed it as Daniel in the 1910 census I believe, but when you look at the actual census, it does say David.

Yes, his name was David not Daniel. I was doing it from memory. I found his death certificate on the Family Search Record site. It was filled out by Nora (Pewthers) von Bargen - my great-great grandmother.

According to the other Family Search website, Josephine Hale's first name was Permelia and Josephine was her middle name.

According to the census, Elizabeth & David were living with Elizabeth's father: Henry Tharp. Have you found that their last name was Thorp and not Tharp? Also, were did you find information on the children that died young?

The death records for Benjamin and an unnamed infant are in the Jackson Ohio county death records:

0518a A 028 Pewthers, Benjamin 1871 Jul 09 S 1m14d Milton Tp.

4470a B 322 Pewthers, 1884 - - - - Jackson
4470b B 322 Pewthers, COMMENT: parents- D. P. Pewthers and Josephine Hale

Benjamin's parents are not listed but Porter and Josephine are the only Pewthers living in Jackson county at the time.

As for the surname being Thorp, rather than Tharp, Porter's death cerficate lists it as Thorp. Also, the extracted marriage records I have seen for William & Elizabeth's marriage list it as Thorp. It was probably spelled both ways.

Thanks for all the info. I can fill in Nora Pewthers' info for you, if you'd like. Do you know what the Infant Pewther's sex was? And did William & Elizabeth get a divorce? Because it seems strange for him to end up in Texas. Also, the Census info that I found of Henry Tharp/Thorp from NJ has him listed as Henry Tharp. I agree they must have gone back and forth with the spelling.

Sure, I'd like any Pewther information you have. I don't know the sex of the baby. The death record doesn't say. And I have no idea what the deal was with William and Elizabeth. One would presume they divorced. It looks like Elizabeth may have married again in Jackson county. I found this marriage record:

----- Pewters, Elizabeth ----- Higgins, Henry Johua ----- 1861 Nov. 9

Nora B. Pewthers married William Frederick von Bargen about 1898 presumably in Hamilton Co, Ohio. William von Bargen was born 12 Dec 1858 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of immigrants from Hamburg, Germany. Their names were Otto Hinrich Jacob von Bargen & Augusta Quast. (I am still working on much of the von Bargen information)

William & Nora had three sons: William Frederick, Otto W., & Hugo Richard. Otto was born Mar 1900 in Springfield, OH. William Jr was born 20 Jun 1902 in Hartwell, OH, and Hugo was born about 1907 in Kearny, NJ. William Sr died before 1930 in Kearny, NJ and Nora died after 1932 in Kearny. William Jr (my great-grandfather) died 7 Jun 1972 in Spring Lake, NJ.

William Jr married Florence Margaret Waldheim 1 May 1926 in Kearny, NJ. Florence was the daughter of Henry Waldheim (from Germany) and Margaret Louise Stevenson (daughter of William James Stevenson & Martha Kennedy; both of Ireland). Florence died 15 Jul 1965 in Colts Neck, NJ. William Jr & Florence had a daughter and a son who are both still living.
