I am trying to locate the family of my ggg grandmother Sarah PEWTER who was born about 1794 in Tollesbury, Essex. She was probably the daughter of John PEWTER (b.c. 1765 - d. 1806 in West Mersea) and Phebe FENNING who married in Tollesbury in Jun 1793. There were at least two other children than Sarah born to this family: Thomas Fenning (b. 1792) and Phebe (b. 1801), both in Tollesbury (there may also be a Coggeshall and White Notley connection).
Sarah married Robert SURRY (b. 1785, Tollesbury) in Tollesbury in April/May 1816. Robert eventually was in the preventive services. There were at least 10 children in this family: born between 1817 and 1840 in various locations (from Tollesbury in Essex, to Ireland, to Kessingland in Suffolk, Palling in Norfolk, and in Kent) due to Robert's transient occupation. Robert died in 1841 in Grays Thurrock.
On the 1851 census, Sarah was found living (with 4 children) in Great Yarmouth as a charwoman. I found her again on the 1881 census, still living in Great Yarmouth. She was living with her granddaughter's family. Sarah (Pewter) Surry died in Great Yarmouth in December 1882.

This seems a bit of a coincedence but in my family tree I have a Sarah PEWTER born circa 1783 and she married a James WILKINSON at Tollesbury 15th jun 1800. Their last child was born in 1811 and accoring to my records Sarah was buried 27th Feb 1837 at Tollesbury.
Now undoubtly this is not the same Sarah, but, have you any references to say a cousin???
All the best,
Harold wilkinson.

There is a William Pewter lister in the West Mersea indexes on the
www.historynewsfinder.co.uk
site. He deserted his family. May be connected to your research
