Any Pewanicks/Pivovaneks?
My grandmother's name was Anna Pewanick, though her mother's tombstone says Pivovanek(?). She was from Central PA, about half hour west of Penn State. She married John Shandor and they moved to Phillipsburg NJ, probably in the late 1920's. Both of their parents came from Slovakia. Any relatives out there?

Grandfathers name is Andrew J. Pewanick born in Grassflat, PA. Found another Andrew Pewanick that was born in 1895, that may have been his father because he dies in Grassflat, PA.

Re: Any Pewanicks/Pivovaneks?
Andrew Pivovarnik (Pewanick) 1895 was my Dad's godparent in 1925. (I still have the original baptismal certificate with Pivovarnik as the last name. The 1930 census shows his last name as Pewanick. Pewanick is the Americanized version of Pivovarnik. The family had 11 children who happened to live across the street from someone who is related to me through a couple marriages. When I have a question about my family, I'll call her. She's related to the Pewanick's through her sister's marriage. Andrew also had a brother George that also lived in Grassflat.

I haven't read this in 10 years, but yes, my mother has Pewanick cousins that still live in Grassflat, PA. Andrew sounds like a familiar name - can't remember if he was a cousin of my mother's. I used to visit Grassflat cousins with my mom and aunts once in awhile.

Andrew was my grandmother's brother. I remember his daughter Verna and her children. They used to live in OH then moved to VA. Her siblings are Barbie, Joe, Dorothy and Margie and I visited them as a child. My grandmother was Anna, and my mother is Annabelle.
