I agree with you. The only thing I'm still wondering about is Charles Klinnert (Handke). If the date of Marriage between Caroline Rose and William Handke is correct, then maybe they have Charles birthdate wrong. It may be Caroline Rose and William were married earlier, that would explain Charles.
I have confirmed as late as 1900 thru the census that a William Handke was definitely married to a Caroline born in 1848.
I also found where Caroline Geppert Peuker (1818) (Widow) was still alive and living with Julius and Emma Peuker.

Surnames: Handke Klinnert
Charles Klinnert Handke is a bit of a mystery. Most researchers have him listed as Charles Traugett Klinnert Handke, and that William Handke adopted him. But they have no proof. The few records I have found for him never mention the name Klinnert.

The 1900 census states that William and Caroline Rose had been married for 31 years--that would put their marriage date at 1869, a year after Charles was born. But there are a lot of mistakes in the census records, and sometimes, when they are extremely hard to read, the person reading them makes a mistake.

If Caroline Rose was married first to August Carl Klinnert, and if Charles was born in April 1868, and then William and Caroline Rose were already married when they came to the USA in June 1869, things really happened fast. And that is possible. And, if she was married to August Carl Klinnert, how was he related to her mother's first husband
who was also a Klinnert? And the marriage date I have for Caroline Rose and August Carl Klinnert is 30 Sept. 1867 which puts Charles as a 7 month baby, or she was pregnant on her wedding day, or his birthdate of April 1868 is wrong.

In the World War I Alien Registration Index for Atchison County, I found a Charles Handke born 29 April 1868. This is probably the son of William & Caroline Rose. If we could find a copy of the actual record, it should have his parents listed.

In the Naturalization Records for Atchison Charles did apply for citizenship, but I don't know if he was ever granted citizenship. When we were in Atchison, we were going to look those up, but they were not available at that time. It was extremely hot that day, and there was no air conditioning in the vault where they were kept, and we were advised not to try finding them. We didn't get a chance to go back to the courthouse on that visit.
There were 3 references for Charles Traugot Handke in the index:
Book 13 Page 99
Book 10 Page 33
Book B Page 45.
If we could get a copy of those, they might explain who his parents were.
