I have been told most of my life that Pugh orginates from Welsh. But then some have broken off from Pugh to Pew and even Peugh. In my line I have traced back where it was broken off from Pew to Peugh. There is even a good list to belong to if you want to learn more on the Pugh/Peugh name. go to http://www.onelist.com and subscribe to Pugh list. Hope this helps.

The origin that I have of the Peugh name is Welsh. The name was originally Aphugh. The "Ap" denoting "Son of Hugh". Tradition has it that the Pughs are descendants of Hugh, a younger son of Sir Gwen Glendower who was the last Welsh Prince. They were of Quaker faith and came to Pennsylvania from Wales in 1682. Later moved to No. Carolina. Do you have any info that matches that could lead us to think we are related? I am related to Homer Nannie Peugh of Upson Co. Georgia (both deceased). They had 12 children. My mother is Lena Mae Peugh Roach.

Helen Snow,
Did your Stephen A. Douglas Peugh have any siblings? If so, do you have their birthdates and places where they were born?
Do you know what name the "A." stood for in his name?
