Linda,
It is oral history but I completely trust its accuracy.I can send photos. One I have is of William and his brother Edward as young teens, circa 1870.
No info on William in California is known to me. I suspect Mary Cowan Peterkin wrote the letters home and perhaps more to her own family although the news would have been shared.

Lloyd the barber in bracebridge was my grandfather his wife Ellen married a guy who had a farm in Elmvale named Ed who was the mailman there. My dad was in the navy in ww2 and a metro toronto police officer. When he got out of the navy he was a sign painter but couldn't find work so when he and my mother moved to Toronto he became a cop. My uncle Bill (william Peterkin) lived in Huntsville and had a house on Skeleton lake were he lived til he died, my uncled bud and bob I didn't know well but one of them lived in Peterborough then moved to California and finally Oakville and had two Daughters Patti and Penny. Bill had no children but was a real nice guy to me, my dad and myself visited him many times in my youth.
I never met my Grandfather but spent time with my Grandmother at the farm,

The name "Murray" appears as a second name with many of his siblings. Until a few days ago, I always thought the story was that a 'Peterkin' was deported to Barbados after the Jacobite Rebellion for impersonating Bonnie Prince Charles. I'm now starting to suspect that it was actually a "Murray" (I.e Lord Murrays clan).

Mary (Molly) Peterkin

Hi there - looking to find relatives of Mary Peterkin born 1886 in Banffshire Scotland. Emigrated to Canada (via Quebec) and was supposed to be heading for Vancouver BC. After that I lose her trail (nothing in the 1911 census data), but may have worked on boats traveling between Vancouver and the north of the state. Any clues would be greatfully accepted. Regards, Geoff Groom

Diane,

Somehow I doubt we are all related. Slaves in Barbados often took the name of their master. For example, if your name was Diane and were "owned" by a Peterkin, then you would then become "Diane Peterkin". I think you might be looking for the white Peterkins if you are of Scotish descent?

Does anyone have the following names that tend to re-occur in your Peterkin family history (by this I mean first/second/third names, rather than surname - although they could well be references to the mother's maiden name)?

May
Murray
Maude
Edith
Viola
Forte

Just a stab in the dark that someone researching here may be well related.
Peterkins in Barbados

I am looking for any relatives of Thomas Peterkin from Barbados (born 1851 and died 1900 - he married an Edith Grant). Thomas was a Solicitor and he owned a couple of properties ("Super Mare" and "Edgeton"). Only known sister was an Mrs Matilda Jane Niccolls.

His daughters were Edith May Peterkin (never married and died in Australia), Viola May (Maisey) Peterkin married Alexander Anderson (a New Zealander who was an engineer in China)and Annie Maude Murray Peterkin (married an American Edward Collins). They seemed to travel to Canada a fair bit to visit their relatives. I believe Edward Collins worked in a University in Florida. All three girls were volunteer nurses and worked in Britian during WW1. Any of these names ring a bell with anyone?

James Peterkin was born in England in 1815 (his father George was from Scotland) and left alone on the wharf in Montreal at age nine 'with a shilling in his pocket'. He had many children by two wives and died at age 45 when William was about four. William was raised by his mother Jane and her second husband along with their children, half brothers from his father's first marriage and a full sister Lizzie and brother Edward (my line).
There were already Peterkins in the U.S. when William went to Cal. A half brother David fought in the Civil War and later died in Cal. Other Peterkins lived in Santa Barbara and Portland, Oregon.
I intend to start an Ancestry tree on this line very soon with lots of records, photos and interesting stories.

Sharon in Vancouver

I know there is something on line called 'dead fred' that photo's are posted to. It may help.
I am looking for PETERKIN relatives who lived in MANITOBA and then in the YORKTON and SALTCOATS SASKATCHEWAN area. Christina McPHERSON PETERKIN b 1848 Scotland, widow of James b est 1843, and their sons George b 1874, John b 1876, Donald b 1878. Another son William Alexander b 1882 in Essex Co. ONTARIO unfortunately appears to have passed away before the family moved to western Canada.
James, the father, was the son of George and Elizabeth PETERKIN of Essex Co. ONTARIO.
Could your aunt have been related to these folks?
I hope your photos find their rightful home. I is great that you are searching for their family.

Peterkin is one of my brick walls. My Great Grandmother (maternal) was Ethel Mae Peterkin 1889-1921. Her father was James Peterkin and his wife was Catherine Exa (yep Exa) Gordon. My Grandmother was named for her and so was my daughter. That's about as far back as I get with solid sources.
Of course all the great group photos I have of the peterkin are not labled. makes me want to cry. I can only ID about 4 in the photo I am attaching

Peterkin born in England and Jane Hurd born in Quebec according to william's death certificate. If anyone has any information on this line in Canada, I would love to share information. I have quite a bit of info on William's family in California.

I saw a post on here from Nubiangem9 requesting information about Lester Peterkin. I am trying to find my dad, When I was born in 1957 I was sent to Dr Banardos when, about 5 years ago Barnados finally gave me my records, I have always wanted to know where I came from. On my records Banardos put that my dad was Lester Peterkin from Jamacia, His address was in Ipswich, When researching this I came across Nubiangem9s family tree I have discovered that the records of Ezra Peterkin matches the exact address and time frame of my father coming to England from Jamaica and also that the shipping records match exactly for Ezra Peterkin and that Lester Peterkin could be in fact my grand father please see the attachment because this is all I've had to work with. Can anyone help me out??
