Hi,
I recently found a letter from one Louis Peterka to my great grandmother Loise Reed. He was in the American Expeditionary Forces in France, the letter is from 1918. I will gladly email scanned pages from the letter to his family so they can have a copy of them. It is handwritten and 8 pages.

Marc, I just recently came to Ancestry and saw your post about the Peterka Reunion. My husband is descended from Jan Peterka born 1867 in Budislav, Southern Bohemia. We think his parents were was Vaclav & Katerina. This branch of the family settled in Cleveland. If you are still with the message board could you respond?

I am looking for any information on my gg grandfather Libor Peterka, born in 1874 in Czech. He married Anna Houdl (1875-1967) in Czech and had 2 children Libor (son 1898) Marie Rosalie (daughter 1901-1993). They all immigrated to USA (Minnesota) on Feb 27 1903. They also had another son Frank in 1904. By 1910 Libor and Anna had divorced. Libor moved to canada with 2 sons and remarried a woman named Rurema. Who they had another child Mary in 1916. If anyone has any information let me know...

My niece and nephew are grandchildren of Frances Peterka Neus. Their aunt was Marie Peterka; she never married. Both women are deceased.

Frances had 3 sons; the elder, Nicholas (Nick) was my niece and nephew's Dad. He, too, is deceased. The niece and nephew (whose birthday is today) have relocated to Charlotte NC.

Hi, Glad to hear from you. Larry vaguely remembers John and an adopted son, who he knew by the nickname of Punk? Would that be your Uncle? Tell us more about your family. Larry lost track of the relatives after his mothe Florence died, and father Charlie was having trouble keeping things together.

Hi - My mom remembers your husband Laurence. She thinks she is 10 yrs older. She babysat him and his two brothers when they were 4, 3 and 2. She has some recollections of Florence and her Peterka brothers, sisters and parents. My mom was adopted by Florences's brother, John. Thanks for posting my families headstones. I havent been back there for quite some time and I printed these for my gen files. Rudolph Dutch Peterka was my grandfather( step- but the only one I ever knew!). The others you posted are uncles and aunts.

This is my paternal grandfather. He had a son from a first marriage. I do remember my father saying that he lived with his grandparents for awhile when he was very young and that while he stayed with them he called Hans Weiss not Hans Peterka.

I knew of a Dr. Charles Peterka, a dentist in Minneapolis i nthe 1940s. I was told he is not related to our Peterka line, but am still seekiing confirmation. His Minnesota death certificate shows the following:

PETERKA, DR. CHARLES # 1994-MN-024355
Date of Birth: 01/31/1900
Place of Birth: OUT OF STATE
Mother Maiden Name: PETERKA
Date of Death: 09/04/1994
County of Death: HENNEPIN

Curiously, his mother's maiden name is also Peterka.

I am trying to find any information on a Charles Peterka born in either 1904 or 1905. My mother-in-law is seeking this information as he is listed as her father on her birth certificate and she know nothing about him. The birth certificate lists him as age 26 in March of 1931 and lists his address as Lakewood Ohio. If anyone could help me on this search I'd appreciate it greatly.

Have you any knowledge of a Peter Panek in Tipton, Ohio?
He was born about 1874. Unclear as to whether he was born in Ohio or Poland. By 1907 he was in La Salle, Illinois. Trying to learn if he was related to the Paneks in La Salle who came from the Kr. Wirsitz, Posen Provinz area.

Hi Carole--Your Peterka line is related to mine. John (Jan) Peterka was the older brother of my great-grandmother Marie Peterka (she married Tomas Panek).

My father is doing research on this line and gave me this info:

John (Jan) Peterka, b. 16 Jan. 1843, in Bilinka, Bohemia,
md. Barbara Hajickova 26 May 1868 in Doubrave, Bohemia
[note: Hajickova is the name my father has listed rather than Pribil as you mentioned--he can investigate this further.].
Jan and Barbara had one child, Antonie, b. 1 Mar. 1876 in Bernadice, Bohemia. The wife died in Bohemia and Jan and Antonie immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1891. Jan left Antonie in Cleveland and went to Chicago, Illinois to work--he died in Chicago on 20 April 1892 and is buried in Bohemian National Cemetery.

Antonie/Antoinette Peterka married John Kulas 20 June 1896 in Cleveland, Ohio. (John Kulas was born 6 June 1870 in Cleveland, Ohio.) Antonie and John had four children: Laura, Jaro, Martha, and John Jr. Maybe you know the line forward from here?

Thanks for the reply. According to census and family Peter Panek's parents were from German Poland and the family believes Peter was born in Tipton, Ohio about 1874. Most Paneks I come across are Bohemian. Mine came from the Wirsitz area in Posen Poland.

Hi--The only Paneks I know about settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area and are from Bohemia (current Czech Republic) rather than Poland.

You could try looking for Peter Panek in the 1900 census--that should tell you which country he was born in. If he was born in Poland, you might be able to find out when he immigrated by checking the Ellis Island website.

Collette, I haven't found any Borstners except the one I wrote to Kim about. My husbands grandmother was Frances (Fannie) Borstner who came to Pennsylvania in the early 1900's Slovania (Austria). She married a Peterca. I haven't gotten very far with this so far. Sorry. I'll keep your message in case I find anything and will get back to you. Sandy

Colette, Fannie was born in a little town in Slavakia (Austria). Her parents were inn keepers. She was born 1885, give or take a year. She married in the old country and came, I believe 2 years after her husband to America. That was in the mid 1900's because their first born was born 1908 in PA.

In the 1860's through the 1880's descendants of Martin Peterka (Bohemia late 1700's) Came to Wahpeton from Borkovice 29, in Bohemia (Austria/Czech). They were my greatgrandfather Mathias (Matej) Peterka, and his three female first cousins Mrs. Josef (Mary Dvorak) Bezenek (sp. Beznick, Mrs. Matej (Anna Dvorak) Lawrence (sp. Lorenc), and Mrs John (Rosa Dvorak) Fatyle (sp. Fajtl). I am in contact with decendants of all of these people, and another Wenzel Dvorak/Peterka family in Wisconsin. As well, I have found a living Peterka (Ivan Peterka) in the Czech Republic who is a direct descendant. We want to plan a "Peterka Reunion" on Memorial Day weekend (May 31st) in 2004 in Wahpeton. James Peterka

I am looking for info on James Peterka, m. Anna Mikoda & had 4 children - Joseph, Edward, Miles & James Jr. According to a census, James immigrated in 1882, when he would've been 2 or 3 years old. Although I know he ended up in Illinois, I'm not sure when that happened. I have his parents' names as Michael & Katherina Peterka, but am not sure of the validity of that info.

James was my g-grandfather & the point where I'm stuck, so any help is greatly appreciated!

My grandmother was Anna Peterka from Battyanfelva,
Hungary (now Rakican, Slovenia. She came to
Bethlehem, PA in 1905. She returned to Hungary and
married an Austrian, Jakob Muler. They came back to
Bethlehem in 1912. In the early 1920's they moved to
West Virginia.

I would like to exchange notes with anyone with the surname
of Peterka in their family or anyone from Hungary or

I am also looking for sobotka familiy relations. olga sobotka, my grandmother was born in 1913 in brno, czech republic, as far as I know...she had a sister called Frantiska Sobotka o Sobotkova , who died in 1949 in brno-zabovresky...I went to the czech republic a few years ago to research with little succes...the only official document I have is the death certificate of frantiska...there appear some other surnames like Berkova, Machatova, Sobotky and Sobotkové, which seem to be close family...my garndmother emigrated to germany after the war ...if you have any information I would very much appreciate your response to anyamale@hotmail.com
