Pesavento family from Michigan, USA.
Hi Everyone,
My great-grandfather was Domenic (Domenico?) Pesavento from Northern Michigan. Siblings to Domenic were: Antonio (Tony), Mary, Giovanni (John), Pietro (Peter), two brothers that may have moved to Australia, one brother in Germany, and another sister in Italy. John lived with them in Ironwood for a while, then moved to Detroit, MI. Peter lived in Ironwood, MI and died in a mining cave-in. I know little about Mary, Tony, or the others. A "cousin" (true relation unknown) was named Amedeo. Amedeo was a sherrif in Iron Mountain, MI and whose family later moved to Omaha, NE.
Domenic married Marie (Mary) Forte and moved from Asiago, Italy to Ironwood, MI in 1909. They had children named: Rose, Antoinette, Valentine, Albino, Dominic, and Deloris.
Anyone out there know more about this family?

Re: Pesavento family from Michigan, USA.
I may know a little about this family....my great-grandfather was Antonio who lived in Ironwood, MI. He is from Asiago, Italy. I believe he had a brother named Domenic. Amedeo (Amedio?)is a son to my great-grandmother's sister. I know that I still have family in Italy; my great-aunt still communicates with them and I know that part of my family is in Australia.....

Re: Pesavento family from Michigan, USA.
Hi Brenda,
Wonderful! I was beginning to think I'd never get any replies!
That's great! It looks like there may be a common link between our families. Domenic's daughter Toni (Antoinette) used to write to Italy also. I'm trying to track down the letters since, apparently, they were passed down to her sister Deloris' kids. Actually, today I got a reply from the officials in Asiago stating they found Domenic Steven Pesavento's records along with his wife's, Mary Forte. Hopefully, I can dig up some good info!
Now, there were a couple Pesavento families in Ironwood. They even lived about 1 block apart on East Ayer St! The other family, with no known relation to mine, was headed by Anthony (similar?), with wife Dominica Stella, and children Raymond, Bruno, and three daughters. He also had two brothers Elio and Dominic, and a sister. The mother, Angeline, lived in Italy.
Does my family sound like the best match or is the second family more familiar?
Actually, I'm in contact with a decendant of Amedeo on Facebook, Peggy (Pesavento) Burns. She's trying to dig around for info on their family for me. I'm also chatting with a decendant of Raymond (from the second family) on Facebook, also named Ray. Small world... Are you on Facebook? If so, feel free to send me an invite. I'm the one living in Hutchinson, MN.
I would love to know more about your family to see if we're really related. If we are, I would be glad to keep you updated on any information I find on my ancestors in Italy or any other info on their descendants.
Regards,
Paul

Re: Pesavento family from Michigan, USA.
Hey Paul
The good news is that I'm not all that confused anymore, thank you for that. I was trying to figure out how the two families fit together thinking that they were related somehow. While the older generation in my family could be good historians they refuse to give up information - my great-grandfather killed himself which i believe the older generation is trying to cover up because, as I'm sure you know, suicide is a huge sin in the catholic religion.
The bad news is that I'm part of the second family. The Ray that you are talking to is my "cousin". That's what we always called him growing up anyway but his dad and my grandpa were brothers. Small world indeed!
I am on facebook so if you need any help clarifying who's who we can probably figure it out, and I'll do the same. I'm the one in Wausau WI.
Good Luck,
Brenda

Re: Pesavento family from Michigan, USA.
Brenda, DRAT! Here I was hoping I found another relative.. ;-) Oh, well. Such is the detective adventure of genealogy I guess. If you're from the other Pesavento family, it would be wonderful if you could fine some info about your family back in Italy. I have no doubt we're related somehow, but it may be back 500 yrs in Italy I'd bet... I've attached some info I'd come across on your family. Some from message boards, some from obits in the Ironwood Daily Globe. The obits were scanned by the Gogebic Range Genealogical Society ( www.gogebicroots.com).
