I am searching for the PESA surname in connection with Croatia (formerly Yugoslavia) My grandfather, Sime, emigrated to the US from the Zaton area in the 1920s. Anyone else looking for this name?

I have seen Yugoslavia info come up alot when I have done searches for PESA. To my knowledge my family has been from Italy as far back as I have gone. However, off the top of my head it seems when I was doing research on passanger lists, that is where I saw the Pesa name attached with homeland of Yugoslavia. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply, Terri. My grandfather came to the US from Croatia during the 1920s, I believe. I still have distant relatives over there (there is a whole town where half the people have my last name) I have had people mention a possible connection to the Italian surname, but the word does exist in the Croatian language (a type of flower, I think) so I'm not sure.

Hi Deborah,
my grandfather's name was also Sime, and he also was from Zaton. Yet I don't know of his ever having gone to America.
I currently live in Australia at the moment, but I was in Zaton in 2000 on holiday.
There are still quite a few of the Pesa family name there.
Possibly if you tell me the names of your parents I might be able to find out if we're related.
Cheers
Rob

Dear Robert and Deborah

Interestingly enough my grandfather's name was also Sime Pesa from Zaton. He died in 1944 though. It would be really interesting to know if any of us have some relation of some sort. Feel free to get in contact, share some names...who knows? Currently, I am living in Canada and went to Zadar (Razanac) in 2000
