Hi: Just began research on Perkins of Maine. I believe my great-grandfather was born in Damariscotta, Maine in the early 1800's. His son (my grandfather Courtney Everett Perkins) was born in Gloucester, Mass. A note in my mother's (deceased)bible shows names of Vincent and Seth Daniel - supposedly died at sea - I believe they must have been fisherman. Maybe this info will be of some help - as I said, I'm just starting out - all new to me!!

Elizabeth (Russell) Moody

Hello,

I have a great great grandpa named James Wiley Perkins and his wife was named Tacey (Beard) Perkins.

James Wiley and/or Wiley was a name that seems to be handed down in the Perkins family, so it's possible that your James Wiley and my James Wiley may be related; although I don't believe they are one in the same.

My great-grandpa Caleb Perkins (James Wiley and Tacey's son) eventually settled in Woodbine, KY (Whitley Co.), but his family was originally from Harlan County. (It would be interesting to find out as we research our families if these two James Wiley Perkins are related.)

I would suggest going to this link to see a picture of your James Wiley Perkins and Matilda Elizabeth Bridges Browning:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyknox/Family-Photos/Perki...

I also believe this may be the death record for Matilda... I'm not sure if my search results will copy over, but go to this link and do a search for last name Perkins, 1st name Matilda, Knox for the county...

http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ky/death/search.cgi

There's also a death record coming up for a James W Perkins in Whitley County..but I don't know if that's the right James W for you. This seems to be a pretty common name for back then, so it makes it a bit harder to search.

I have a question for you too...do you happen to ever go past the Whetstone Cemetery in Rockholds? I was trying to find if there are any pictures of it online. Several of my Perkins family members are buried there, including my great-grandparents Caleb and Myrtle Perkins (great-aunts/great-uncles too).

I did have a great-aunt Tildy, but I believe her actual name was Tilda. She was related by marriage.

There also some records for James Wiley Perkins and Matilda Elizabeth Browning on Roots Web.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I do notice that this James Wiley was born in Jellico, TN...very interesting as I also have family from there, but on a different side. Note that the burial location for Matilda is available at this link. Children's names (although doesn't appear complete) also available here too.

Feel free to keep in touch with me.

Maggie Dudzik

Her brother was William Perkins b:1904, they lived with William and Carrie Nichols in Hampton, Arkansas on the 1920 census. Their sister Louise Perkins b:1909 lived with Lila or Lillian King family in Hamptom Arkansas on the 1920 census. I was told that they were orphaned but no one seems to know anything about my grandmother's parents. They are listed as cousins of the families they lived with in 1920. Any information would be helpful.

Re: Samuel John Perkins ~1860-?

I do not know much about the Perkins in my background.
A Samuel John Perkins married Sarah Elizabeth Ridler in Middlesex Co. in Nov. 1884. They had a daughter Minnie Perkinds born in January 1885 in London West, Ontario. I have been told that they had a second daughter who was named Ada and raised by someone else and went by the last name of Fisher.

The marriage register of Samuel John and Sarah Ridler states that his parents were Samuel and Mary. Sarah's parents were George Ridler and Rebecca Pearson.

They separated after Ada was born, or maybe even before she was bor; she remarried and moved to Bay City, MI. I have not been able to find trace of Samuel John since then. My aunts said that their mother, Minnie Perkins, never spoke about her father. At age 5 she was living with a family in 1891 in Mayo Co. I would like to know more about this person. I do not know of the Perkin(s) names you mention.

Please share information you find about Samuel John. He was supposed to have been of English extraction. June
Paula Fowler Smith has an article about the family in the current issue of Legacies & Legends of Winn Parish, Louisiana. She says the parents of Lucinda Perkins are William Perkins and Penina Anderson. There were no dates for this couple, and no further info on them. I've been researching Lucinda Perkins and Lewis Fowler today on the internet, but your post is the first mention I've found for them.

This man is the brother of my GG grandmother I know he exists because he is a witness on family marriage and death certificates but I can find no official record of him. He was born about 1857 in Liverpool UK, his father was John Perkins and his mother Mary Ann Hayes. He is possibly a sailor as he was in Australia in the late 1870's, early 1880's. It is also possible that he migrated to America as family history mentions relatives in the US. Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated

Perkins of Poplar Bluff, Missouri

I am the great-grandson of Leroy A. Perkins born Mar 16, 1894 in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri. His father was Robert J. Perkins and his mother appears to have been Miranda (Timmons) Perkins.

There were siblings as well, Nelson and Pearl....maybe more...I am unsure.

Robert J. Perkins appears to have been born in Missouri and may have had a father by the name of Leroy.

Miranda appears to have been born in Indiana.

These Perkins appear to have moved to the Los Angeles/Southern California area sometime after 1900.

I know that Leroy A. Perkins passed away in the Sacramento area in 1971.

Would anyone happen to know anything about these people?

Thanks,

Brad
Southern California
