On 7 May 1883 my paternal great-grandfather, Iowa farmer Robert Jasper PERIGO [1839-1917; father of 9 children w/wife Mildred J. SWETNAM: Alice M., George M., James E., Manoah, Marquis L.(my 'Grandpa Mark'), Robert D., William J., Lemuel G., John W.] fatally shot his neighbor, farmer John HIDINGER [1839-1883; also father of 9 children w/wife Lydia A. WALTERS: Annie L., Willis D., Mary L., David H., Cora M., Walter J., Leroy L., Eugene E., Daisy L.] after quarreling over ownership of a dog left behind by a previous tenant. Newspaper archives mention that the murder trial suffered numerous appeals and spanned 7 years; Perigo's guilty verdict was eventually overturned.
To offer my heartfelt condolences for what my kin had done to theirs, I managed to connect with a grandchild of the victim's youngest daughter/Daisy who'd been made fatherless in infancy upon Hidinger's demise. She generously shared with me copies of a lot more interesting info/pics passed down from her ancestors about these men & this case (...amazing, what can be learned thru Ancestry.com connections!).

I have much more information now. Clyde V Boyer b 1907 d 2005 was Walter Perigo son. (mother Elizabeth Boyer) long story. Charles H. Perrigo (Perigo) married Agnes Jameson around 1881 (probably in Suffolk County, Mass. The census says that Charles H. Perigo was born in South Carolina. They also had a son born 20 July 1881 names Charles W. Perigo. They had three daughters who died in infancy, Maud, Laura and Adelaide (I think). Charles and Agnes show up in the 1880 census in Boston living with the Barta family and apparently not yet married. Sometime around 1887, Agnes apparently had remarried to Henry Cook, lived in Chateaugay, NY in 1900. Charles was still with her but using the surname of Cook.

Could you please let me know who has the quilt? I am a newbie to Ancestory and I am a Debold/Hinnenkamp descendant. My grandfather was H C Debold, my grandma, Anna Hinnenkamp. My mother, Barbara Wilson Debold told me about this quilting group and I would love to see the pieces.
Most of the names are of the families that cared for me as a child in Salina, Kansas.

It was quite common to have MIS-SPELLINGS of names in the early CENSUS record...# 1 our ancestors mightve been illiterate & #2 the census takers were ENGLISH in the first census records taking...so therefore...they couldnt undertand the local slang,dialect, etc...
thats why so many different variations of PERIGO.

I have her married to Daniel Richeson Dec. 9, 1830 in Washington Co., In.. She and Daniel were born in Pennsyvania. She has a death date of 1896. No location is shown. Daniel has a death date of Nov. 1876 in Kansas.

If you have a scanner I would like a copy of the family picture. This family is not part of my normal research but my limited research on the Richeson is for my pastor. He is a direct decendant of Oris Buckner Richeson, the youngest son of Tirzah and Daniel.

Her spouse is listed as Davis Perigo who died in 1876. It lists dau, granddau, and great granddaughters names. I will scan this article for anyone who wants it. Tirzah Perigo (Richeson)

I am looking for any information that anyone might have on a Tirzah Perigo. She was born on Sept 28, 1810. She married into the Richeson family. She had nine kids that I know of, even though i don't know all of their names. I believe that her children were Mary, Ann, Sarah, Miles, Oris B., John.

I am going off of the family pictures that we have of them.

Perigo as Sephardic Jewish Converso name

From my research, I believe Perigo may be a converso name, taken by Jews who converted to Christianity after the inquisition. Similarly: Duran/Durango, Far/Fargo (as in Wells Fargo). The original Perigo name would have been Peres or Perez, meaning rock.
Incidentally, did you know Elizabeth Taylor is a Perrigo? Her grandfather was named Jonathan Perrigo, and is described as Italian, but when did you ever meet an Italian named Jonathan?

We've just returned from Quincy - the co seat of Adams Co, IL searching for all evidence of Justus J/I Perigo - our ancestor who got a land grant there 3/16/1818 in what became Falls Creek twp. He is cited in all the co. histories as the first settler in what became Adams Co.
We found several land sales by son Dudley of parcels of that land & other later acquisitions, as heir to his estate. Other sons so selling are David, Johnathan & Justice -- apparently of 7 heirs, as one specifies of his 1/7th part as heir. We believe our Mary Jane Combs Perigo b @ 1821-25 to be one of those, as well as her brother Hiram who moved to WI early. Family had that she was the first white woman to cross the Wisconsin River - when she was 13.
I've been merging the census records with the marriage records & have most of the children of those 4 sons in place.
Can we work together on this? Are you also a descendant?

Looking for information on a Frank Perigo, possibly born in Clay County, TN. He was married to a Ellen Deckard, Her birth place may have been Monroe County, Ky. This info was taken from a funeral record of there son Paul Leon Deckard b: March 05, 1939 d: July 22, 1943 in Sumner county, TN.

Fleming Perigo died July 21, 1889 Sullivan co. IN. He is buried in Old Hickory cemetery. He was 74yrs, 3months, 20dys. Buried next to him is his son William Perigo died Apr 8, 1881. 38yrs 4months, 16dys.

You missed one of his children. Arthur Perigo (his son) had a twin named Otha Edwin Perigo. Otha had several children and marraiges as well. I know this b/c he told me all this before he died. Email me with questions.
