Looking for information or relatives of Filomena Pepice, born approx. 1855 in Ripacandida, Italy, married John Albino (date unknown) who adopted all her living children. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1915, died approx. 1956 in Blue Island, Illinois. I have no information as to other husband(s), children or siblings. Would appreciate any information.

Jeff,

Thank you for the response. I have not been able to get any additional information regarding Filomena Pepice, except that she bore several children as follows:

Carmela (1883)
Unknown (1885)
Teresa (1887)
Donato (1889)
Costanzo (1892)
Unknown (1895)
Unknown (1897)
Nicolina (1900)

According to family folklore, these children were the result of an ongoing affair with Giovanni Batista DeSapio, who was the Mayor of Ripacandida. The children (with the exception of Nicolina, my grandfather) all married prior to coming to America so their surname is open to debate. My grandfather used Albino as he was directed by his older brother Donato. Donato decided that everyone needed an honorable last name since the Mayor didn't marry his mother so he picked out Albino to honor his mother whose family came from Albania. (Some story eh?) As you may know, Ripacandida is an Arberesh settlement.

If you are able to locate any information regarding just Filomena Pepice that would be wonderful, otherwise, my family research on this branch ends here. Thank you for your kind reply.
