William, did your great grandfather William Dilcox have a brother named George? My grandfather was William Dilcox, his father was George H. Dilcox born 1841 in or around Ogdensburg, New York. George H.'s father was also, George born in England around 1794. George H. Dilcox had four children William 1885, George H. Jr. 1887, Charlotte 1889 and Alma 1891. My grandfather William had four children, Allen, Doris, George Edward and Warren.
There were two William Dilcox's listed in the Civil War.
One was married to a Margaret Mohr (born in Germany) they had a daughter named Fanny Dilcox who married Henry Philander Ryan (lived in the Dakota Territory). They had another daughter named Christie Dilcox Weber. The other William may have been your great grandfather. Do you know what his wife's name was?? Did your great grandparents ever live in up-state New York? That is where the two William Dilcox's in the Civil War were enlisted in Sept 1861 and Aug. 1862. Dilcox is an unusual name. We may be related??

Thanks for your email regarding William Dilcox and family history.
It's possible that your William Dilcox, Civil War Vet is related to my Grandfather's family.
My Grandfather William Dilcox (Jan 30, 1885) born in Lisbon, NY, father George H. Dilcox born (Sep. 1841)and mother Mary Jane Porter. George H. Dilcox's father was George Dilcox born about 1794 in England married to Frances ?. Also, they had a daughter Ruth Dilcox born about 1821 in England.
I found a Christie Ann Dilcox Weber (born Apr. 15, 1862)NY. Who lived in Hamlin, Dakota Territory in 1880 (mother's maiden name, Mohr) My Grandfather, William Dilcox use to visit the Dakota's. That's why I think he might be related to Christie. Also, Christie's sister, Fanny is mentioned in the 1880 Census of Hamlin County, Dakota Territory. Fanny was married to a Henry Philander Ryan. Dilcox is an unusual name. Maybe my 2nd-great grandfather George Dilcox (born about 1794 in England) was an uncle or cousin to your side. Was the George, married to Fanny who lived around Ann Arbor, Mich. born in the U.S. or England??
Another fact that may link our families is your William Dilcox, Civil War Vet. was in the Regiment organized in Ogdensburg, NY. That's where my Grandfather lived. Small world! That's what made me think, there might be a connection! (both with the same name,(unusual last name) same town.
There was another Civil War Vet named William Dilcox in the 8th Cavalry Regiment Illiones, died 24 Dec 1861 in Washington, D.C. (Was a resident of Richmond, Illiones).

Do you think there is a link?

Regards, Virginia
