I'm a descendant of the brother Daniel (1807-1876) who married Sarah Watchorn. They originally went to Argyle with George and John; however, Daniel and his family moved on to Fayette, Wisconsin, a little later probably to escape the sickness that was along that part of the river. Do you know who Thomas or Sarah Dewey's parents were? Are there still any Penniston's left there today?

I'm related to Ross Penniston's father, Edmund. Edmund's wife was Mary Jane Theobold 1853-1917. Mary Jane's parents were Robert Theobold (born in England) and Isabella Bernard who was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada and died in 1886.

My great-great-grandfather was William Penniston (1832-1901) from Lafayette County, WI. At one time there were hundreds of Pennistons in southern Wisconsin, but I was wondering if you could tell me which William Penniston is your relative. Who were his parents and what are his dates?

I am not related to this person, his obituary appeared in the "100 Years Ago Today" column in the North Vernon (IN) Plain Dealer on 11-24-2010 for 11-23-1910. I thought it might be of help to someone.

The body of John Penniston, who was a former resident of North Vernon, was brought here from Chattanooga, Tenn., last Friday morning for interment in the City Cemetery. He was a son of the late James Penniston. He was a victim of pneumonia and was ill only five days.

Hello Jean & others, benn a long time since I worked on this Penniston line. I have film 592596 from LDS. It is the Bishop Transcript film.

The 1st entries my old eyes could read was the bap. of children of William & Ann: William 29 Sept 1696, Elizabeth 1 Dec 1698, wife Anne also bap. that day., Sarah 6 April 1701, Thomas 14 Feb 1702.

Next I found was marriage of John Warren & Margarett Pennyston 6 July ( not sure of year), Sarah daughter of John Warren & Margaret born 10 July 1716.

21 April1717 lists bap. of William son of Michael Penniston & Elizabeth.

20 April 1717 a William Penniston was buried.

26 Jan (June) 1717 Joseph Frank & Ann Penneston are married.

10 Aug 1718 William son of Michael & Elizabeth is bap.

24 June 1724 Ann Penison buried

May 8 1728 Elizabeth Peniston buried.

March 17 (year?) William Penniston buried.

1744 register signed by Michael Penniston

10 June 1787 or 1788 Thomas, J, Michael Pennyston, adults bap.

1791 marriage of Michael Pennyston & Ann

20 Sept 1797 Sarah daughter of Michael & Ann bap

Does anyone have copy from parish records for this period? Who is the William whse wife Anne is haveg children 1696-1702? Did he have previous wife who was mother of Margarett, Michael & Ann or was there other Pennistons having children in Plunger before 1680's. Does anyone know who the father of Thomas, Michael, & Jabez are?

Thomas and Sarah Dewey had 3 sons born in the small village of Plungar in the Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire. The had an elder son, William Dewey born out of wedlock who stayed behind and ran the farm. I am descended from William Dewey and live a few miles from Plungar. I have a copy of Thomas's will and lots of info on his descendants. If anyone wants to share info please contact me.

Theodore was my father's brother. My father was John Benjamin Penniston. My daughter Kerry listed his siblings in a previous message. The Pennistons arrived in America from 1848 to 1850
from Plunger, Leicester, England. The immigrants were the 3 sons and married daughter of Thomas Penniston and Sarah Dewey. The immigrants included the children and grandchildren of the 4 siblings. Theodore's father was Benjamin Handler Penniston. His father was John Penniston, a son of Thomas and Sarah. We have a comprehensive genealogy.
We know but very little about Theodore's progeny.

Plungar, Leicester, England, d 1866. Daniel was son of Thomas Penniston and Sarah Dewey, m 24Apr1796 Plungar, Leicester, England. Daniel and Sarah had: Ann, c 4 May1828; William, c 11 Mar1832; Mary, c 12Apr1835; Edmund, b 1838; Thomas, b 1840;
John, c 4Jun1843; Sarah, b 1847; Rachael, b 13Feb1849.
These children were all born/christianed in Plungar, Leicester,
England except for possibly Sarah and definitely Rachael who
was born in Argyle, Lafayette County, WI. I don't have a record of Elizabeth, but there is a gap from 1828 to 1832.

I am a direct descendent of Thomas and Sarah by their son John, grandson Benjamin, great grandson John.

I recently saw the previous posts about Penniston-Rankin.
My name is Paula Kircher, I am working on my husband’s mother’s side of the family and might be of some help and thought you might have info for me also.
My husband: Ted
Mother: Marie
Grandmother: Eva
Great grand mother: Josephine Rankin

Then I have Josephine’s parents as Rankin and Tentheson (mothers maiden name form Josephine’s death cert.) A very distraught daughter gave this info in 1947.
From Josephine’s obit I know that she had siblings, William Rankin and Ralph Rankin whom lived in California. (Los Angles area).
When doing searching I found a William and a Ralph Rankin in California Death index, ages, names and locations are right.
The only thing is that for both these men, they list mother’s maiden name as Penniston. But I believe these are Josephine’s brothers.
I tried a test and called a friend who recorded me and when I said both names, on the recording it was very hard to distinguish the “Ten and Penn”.
If anyone has information-linking Josephine to William and Ralph I would love to have it. And if anyone wants a lot of information about Josephine Rankin down to her great grand son, I have extensive information and documents I would gladly share.

I am looking for information on John T. Penniston, Civil War veteran, who married Agnes Hardy (unsure on this name). They had 4 children: Rose Ann, John, William, Mary A. The first three were born near Des Moines, Polk County, IA. Mary was born in Leavenworth, KS. Agnes died in 1867 after giving birth to Mary . The children were adopted out: Rose Ann to an OLMSTEAD family, John to a JENKINS family, Mary to a JANESKY family (don't know about William). John drowned in Rockford, Winnebago County, IL around 1899.
