Help please

I am looking for the parents of Rebecca Marie Mashew,(my great grandmother) b. abt 1893 in Missouri. Rebecca married William Ed Penningtonin in 1906 in Carroll County Arkansas at age 14.

I can find nothing on her pripor to her life with William. I have ordered a copy of their marriage license, and it's on its way, but I have already spoke to the clerk in Arkansas. She told me that the letter giving consent for marriage from Rebecca's parents (needed because of her age)is missing from the file. So, no parents names there. I can find no record of her birth in Missouri to order a certificate.

I know quite a few details from her life with William due to having family members that knew her still living, but nothing about where she came from.

I would appreciate any help, guidance, ideas, etc...

Have you tried ordering her death certificate? It may have her parents' names on it...

Not yet, and I'm not sure I can. I don't know for sure where she died. I have Oklahoma listed because that is what I have found in other family trees. But, there is a difference in middle names. The reason for this may be because the Rebecca Mashew I am looking for lived on Indian Territory. This is where she also had her 5 children, none of which have birth certificates. Would she have a death certificate if she passed away on Indian Territory?

Oklahoma became a state in 1907 -- since she died after 1907, if she died in OK, there should be a death certificate.

You might also want to look to the PENNINGTON(s) for more information. I think there is a typo in your post as it says PENNINGTONIN, but I think PENNINGTON is the surname,
no? Anyway. I have a PENNINGTON line of ancestors and the PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION has been very helpful. You might want to google them and see if they have any information on your line.

I found this, which isn't any help.

1910: Butterfield, Barry, Missouri; Roll: T624_767; Page: 6B; Enumeration District: 2; Image: 658.

[Indexed as Permington, looks like "Pennington"]

William E Permington, 28, Missouri, Ark, Ark, boiler maker for railroad
Rebecca A Permington, 16, Missouri, Missouri, Ky
Hawell E Permington, 3, OK, MS, MS
Jewell E Permington, 1 5/12, OK, MS, MS

Rebecca and William have been married for 4 years. She has had 2 children.

1920: Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Roll: T625_1487; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 232; Image: 362.

Wm Pennington, 38
Rebekah Pennington, 26
Hewel Pennington, 13
Jewel Pennington, 11
Leo Pennington, 3 3/12
Joe Pennington, 8/12

I googled
"Rebecca Marie" Mashew
(with the quotes as shown. The name is rare enough that search argument will find both "Rebecca Marie Mashew and
"Mashew, Rebecca Marie".)

Google suggested Mayhew, and I remembered a young man named Mashore that I went to school with. There are just 16 people named Mashew in the USA in the 1900, and half of them have corrections to "Matthew" or "Mathew". I would bet even money that even if "Mashew" was the correct spelling, she got recorded in 1900 as something else. There are no Rebeccas or Maries or Rebekahs or Beckys named anywhere close to "Mashew" in Carroll County on the 1900.

Yes, I found those census's as well. The only thing I have confirming that her maiden name was Mashew was the marriage license from Carroll County Arkansas. I have found nothing else with her Maiden name on it. And I'm guessing in 1906, when the marriage occurred, those records could have been hand-written. Which would leave them up for interpretation.

So, how would I go about finding her, without knowing her last name?

Thank you for your help!

I suspect you've thught of her death certificate, her cemetery record, her obituary may have it.

How about her children's SSN applications, death certificates, birth certificates, marriage licences, obits or cemetery records?

If the children made the society page for their weddings, the articles may mention "the bride is the daughter of ...".

I have been unable to get my hands on an obituary for her. And I don't have enough information to get a death certificate.

I did order the marriage license for her and William but it only says her name, Rebecca Mashew, and her age - 14. It does say she was from Green Forest in the county of Carroll, Arkansas. The clerk said that because she was 14 at the time of the marriage, she would have had to have a letter of consent from her parents. She said she could tell where it use to be attached, but it's no longer there.

I have ordered the SS-5 for her oldest son Huel, my grandfather. It has been about 5 weeks since I ordered it. I haven't recieved it yet.

her children have no birth Certificates from what I understand. They were all born on Indian territory. When my grandfather died they ran into several problems because of this. And I'm not sure what ended up happening.

When her children were still living in the home, William had left and Rebecca was left to raise the boys alone. As the story goes, she eventually left, too, telling them to go and find their dad. the boys were then sent to various orphanages accross the mid-west. So I'm not sure where to look for marriage records for them.

can you tell I'm new at this, lol?

I contacted the clerk in Carroll County Arkansas again and asked her to pull the marriage record. She did and she said it was very clearly Mashew. She said it was wrote in more than one place, and each is clearly Mashew. She said they also checked the registry and it also said Mashew.

how would I go about finding the correct funeral home? All I know is she died in Tulsa county, Oklahoma in 1963 and is buried in Woodland Memorial Park cemetery.
