Janoma Pennington Wells
1922-2008
LUBBOCK - Janoma Pennington Wells, 85, formerly of Shamrock, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008.
Graveside celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Memorial Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. in Trinity Church Chapel. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Wells was born March 23, 1922, in Haskell to Jess and Sylvia Marrs Pennington, who welcomed their daughter into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008. She married Dale Wells on Aug. 8, 1940, in Shamrock, where they resided until they moved to Lubbock in 2000. Dale preceded Janoma in death on Oct. 4, 2004, after 64 years of marriage. She retired in 1987 from the U.S. Postal Service.
Janoma lived her life devoted to serving Jesus, her husband and her family. Because of her selfless example of loving her family and others, following Jesus with a whole heart, and demonstrating strong work ethic, her children and grandchildren have learned that life's most precious gifts are the ones you love and serve.
She was a faithful member and Sunday school teacher of First Baptist Church in Shamrock. She has resided at Carillon Belle Court South Assisted Living Center for the past 3½ years and will be remembered by the staff and residents as "the sweet lady with the winning smile."
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Gayla Lummus Leonard, in April 2006.
Survivors include her children, Diane and Ronald Lummus and Sharon and Mike Bingham; four grandchildren, Ronda and Stephen Cox, Neal Leonard, Cody Lummus, Melody and Kurt Harris, and Michael Dale Bingham; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sydnee and Rylee Cox, and Walker and Lexi Leonard.
The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Christian Schools, 7002 Canton Ave., Lubbock, TX 79413.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
