Harriet Pembrook Married to Richard Halbert Cartwright and then to Mathias Stotter
Am Looking for any information about Harriet and or her family. She had 7 children with Richard and I know nothing about her marriage with Mathias As far as I know she was from Berkshire England and was born in march of 1825. Family ledgend has it that she was the daughter of the stable hand and kithen worker of Lord Cartwright and his son Richard fell in love with her. When Lord Cartwright found out about it he had her family deported to America in the middle of the night. Some how Richard found out about it and managed to row out to the boat before it sailed and came to America with them. At that time She was very young about 11 and he was about 10 years older that she was. They lived in North Royalton Ohio Just south of Cleveland. That is the extent of what I know about her

I have information on Mathias Stotter b 1840 in Lambourne, Berkshire. He married Lucy Stannet in 1866 and had 6 children. Could these be the same Mathias as I can only trace one Mathias.

Re: Harriet Pembrook Married to Richard Halbert Cartwright and then to Mathias Stotter
My GGGrandfather is Simon Stutter who lived in the Almondsbury, Gloucestershire area, A couple of years ago a Stutter sent me a great GED with info on the Stutters. It has been bothering me for some time about the connection of my Simon Stutter to a John Stutters - the locations didn't match well. Ancestry.com recently made the 1841 English census available and I was able to do more research. I now believe my Simon was attached to the wrong John Stutter. I found a Simon Stoter of the right age whose father is John Stoter and a mother named Elizabeth. All the other info I've been able to collect about Simon says he was born in Berkshire and sometimes Wiltshire. He has a variety of brothers and sisters whose last names are normally spelled Stotter. One of them is Matthias Stotter. I found your mention of Matthias Stotter in this message board and hence this note. The transcribers have spelled the name Stober, Statter, Staughter, Shutter, Shetter and Slutter. Based upon this information I was able to find Simon in the 1851 census, again in the right place, mainly Lambourn, Berkshire. Previously I had found him in 1861, 1871 and 1881 censes. My only problem is that his father John is listed as being married to a Sarah from the 1851 census forward. The IGI (transcribed from parish records) lists John Stotter and Sarah as the parents of Simon and his siblings. There is a transcribed record of a John Stotter and Elizabeth Hawks being married in 1813 which is a little early for the children's ages. Simon's marriage certificate lists an Elizabeth as his mother. There are a lot of records from members of the LDS indicating that John Stotter married a Sarah Swan/Roby in 1821 or 1837 which might indicate a second marriage. There is a record of an Elizabeth Stotter's death in Q4, 1848 in Lambourn. Sarah Stotter died in 1870 in Lambourn and was in the 1851 & 1861 censes. There was only one Stotter family in Lambourn in all of the censes. This is perplexing, was he a bigamist, did he divorce and remarry or was her name really Sarah Elizabeth?
I wonder if you can shed any light on my problem? Any help or information you can provide would be well appreciated and I'll share what I have if you would like that.

Hey Kathy, I've been trying to get a hold of you for awhile now. You have a lot of knowledge about the cartwright family. I looked at all the other posts you made and the surnames you were searching, and most of them fit with my side of the family, aka my ancestors. Richard Halbert Cartwright is my 4x great grandfather, and I am decended from his second child Henry. I'm curious which child you are decended from, as well as more information about your side of the family.
