Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Yes, I see that several family trees have a Humberson Lyon that is married to a Nancy Pemberton. Many have those two as the parents of Humberson, James, William, Stephen, Jacob and Susannah. Most have him being born in 1740 in Russell County, Virginia and dying between 1784 and 1788. My Humberson Lyon, who I have being born in 1724 and dying in 1784, was, I believe, a Constable in Augusta County, Virginia in 1747 -- impossible if he was born in 1740. It's possible that I'm wrong and it was Humberson's father, Humberstone, who was the Constable.
I know that my Humberson, who died in 1784, was the father of Humberson, James, William, Stephen, Jacob and Susannah. I know that because of the Chancery Court Case. As far as I can tell, he was born in 1724 in Prince George's County, Maryland.
The answer to your question about that Humberson Lyon being the son of the Humberson Lyon whose widow married George Pemberson is no. As far as I have been able to learn, the only son of the Humberson Lyon (the one who left a widow who married George Pemberson) who was named Humberson, died unmarried at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
I've also seen a couple of references to Humberson Lyon being married to William Crabtree's sister, Hanna(h). In particular, Emory L. Hamilton's The Long Hunter, mentions this. I've never seen any proof of it though. Moreover, I have her married to an Edward Smith.
I haven't a clue as to why Margaret Pemberton Young was buried in Iowa.

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Just one more question , do any of these Lyon families have a daughter named Mary in them ?

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Yes, several.
Stephen Lyon (1777-1845), Humberson Lyon's son, who was married to Margaret Snodgrass, had a daughter named Margaret Mary (1813-1848) and another daughter named Mary (????-????). Margaret Mary married a David G. Chapman and Mary married a John Chapman. Not sure how the two Chapman men are related; likely brothers. The two Snodgrass women were sisters, both daughter of James Snodgrass (1762-1828).
Jacob Lyon (1779-1867), another of Humberson Lyon's sons, who was married to Mary Ann "Polly" Snodgrass, had a daughter named Mary Ann "Polly" Lyon (1822-1864).
Stephen Lyon's son, James S. Lyon (1803-1861), had a daughter named Mary (1842-????). James S. Lyon had a son, Stephen J. Lyon (1833-1904) whose daughter was Mary Alice Lyon (1866-1944).
James S. Lyon's son, John A. Lyon (1835-1903), had a daughter named Mary Alice "Mollie" Lyon (1877-1948). Another of James S. Lyon's sons, Charles R. Lyon (1870-1930), had a daughter named Mary M. Lyon (1898-????).

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Thanks I was just wondering if there were any Lyon families that could have had any daughters named Mary Lyon that were old enough to marry anyone back in the late 1700's .

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
I found out from an web article about the Young family of Wayne County KY as to why Margaret Pemberton Young was buried in the state of Iowa instead of Wayne County KY . Several members of the Young family and their spouses had moved to Iowa to search for gold and sometimes these members of the Young family would return to Wayne County KY to visit relatives that had stayed behind . Evidently Washington Young had died on a return trip to Wayne County KY after his wife Margaret Pemberton Young had passed away back in Iowa .

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Interesting!
I spent a day recently in Abingdon, Virginia, the county seat of Washington County. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to learn anything about "Mary," the widow of Humberson Lyon who married George Pemberton. The Washington County Historical Society had no such information in the material I had time to look through. Much of their information, by the way, came from other amateur genealogists like me and no doubt contained errors like my information no doubt contains. The courthouse did not have any marriage records prior to 1790 and no will records further back than 1777. The Virginia Department of Health, which maintains vital records, has no birth or marriage records further back than 1853.

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
Unfortunately I've heard that many early records from Virginia were destroyed during the American Civil War . There were some Pembertons in neighboring Sullivan County TN that might be related to the Pembertons in Washington County VA , hopefully someone can someday check and see if they might have some useful records .

Re: Nancy Pemberton wife of Colonel Humbertstone Lyon
I spent some time reading this chancery case yesterday and I did glean from it that George Pemberton lived in Lincoln County, Kentucky. When his sons Thomas and Lewis became involved it gave their locations as Green County and Fayette County, Kentucky.
