Since I posted my first message I have been
able to connect our William to William Pember
born Sept. 20, 1828, son of William and Charity.
Grandson of Andrew and Jane. I also have learned
that our William's name is Charles William Pember
born about 1858. I would be very interested in
any info you may have in your Pember book.

The book is called John Pember A history of the Pember family in America. Copyright 1939 Celeste Pember Hazen. There is also a smaller Pember pamphlet available which is an exact replica of one we have that has been passed down from generation to generation. Both are excellent and I wouldn't be without them. You can order them thru Higginson Book Company
148 Washington St.
Post Office Box 788
Salem MA 01970
Phone: 978/745/7170
The following is what the book says. the comments are the author's and not my own. the numbers refer to the generation #'s.

---------------------------------------------
William (7), william (6), Andrew (5), Andrew (5), John(3), John (2), Thomas (1).

b. Sept. 20, 1828
d. by 1911, Lorain Co., Ohio
Lorain County Probate Record #7429 of the Estate of William Pember, 1911 names heirs: Charles and Ed, sons : C.W. Pember, grandson: Ellen Hurd and Elizabeth Clifford daughters. From this it appears that there wre not less than five children, unless Elizabeth (clifford) was a daugher-in law.

Eliza C. Pember, Of Probate record # 6644, date 1908 seems to have been a son's wife; her heirs were C.W. Pember, son, and Della Bassett, daughter, The latter left no children.

William is believed to have living descendants, including some of the name Pember.

---------------------------------------------
There is so much more in these books. Briefly, The name Pember originated in Herefordshire Engand as Pembridge, I do not know why the name changed (this is my quest). And it was Thomas who first came over to the colonies. It's funny we may have the same Great-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g grandfather!

Eliza Pember was married to William Pember
born Sept 20, 1828. Their children were Charles William Pember
Odelpha Pember. Odelpha could have been called Della.
In the June 22, 1880 census, it is interesting that
right below Pember William, Eliza and Charles, the next
family is a Bassett family. Not sure what is first name is,
his wife is Olive and a son named Leon. The next family is
Artemus Wilmot and his family. Charles William married
Artemus Wilmot's daughter Bertha. William Charles and
Bertha had three daughters. Mattie C., Luella Viola and
Nellie E. There may have been other children that did not
live I don't know I have cesus info., obits and other
information about the family. The names for
Probate Record #7429, are names I have for the children
of William Charity Pember. I have that he was born
Feb. 10, 1800. I have a friend in Lorain Co., will try
to get the records. If you could e mail me I have other
information you may be interested in. I will be ordering
the book on Tuesday. Can't wait to see what is says. Thanks.

Hi! I am greatly interested to know, since you have Pembers in Ohio, if you have anything on Mary Pember m. (1)Samuel Jackson French around 1841 they were divorced around 1856, I think and she later married George Flatter and lived in Darke County Ohio. My Great Grandmother, Lovina Elizabeth French was born of the first marriage in Bartonia, Randolph County, IN. and I think there was a brother Willard French. Mary is a brick wall for me, as I cannot find anything on who her parents may have been.-Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Probate Record #7429

I have the probate record and after much pondering
believe we have figured out the confussion. It is
in fact for William Pember husband of Charity.
It says it is an Application for Letters of Administration
with the will annexed For Wm. Pember a resident
of the Township of Penfield who died testate on
or about 1880. It says (very faintly) "made
simply to correct paid up mortage". The mortage
part took us a long time to figure out. This was
done Oct 6, 1911. I can see why the person doing
the book got confused. What also took awhile to
figure out was that it said Wm. Pember left
no widow, yet we knew he died before Charity.
When this was made in 1911, Charity was no longer
living.

I am so sorry but I couldn't find anything in my book. There are so many Mary Pembers though, maybe I missed something? Do you have any other info? Even a middle initial, or a town in Ohio? A siblings name maybe? let me know and I'll look again. Julie

Julie, Thanks so much for trying. I have one solid record from Darke County Common Please Court Records Dec 1857 Mary French V. Samuel J. French Divorce. Filed 8/12/1857 Five children listed: Walter French Jr Age 12 years, Lavina Elizabeth age 9 years, James William French age 6, Willard French age 3 and Margaret Janed French Age 1 yr. "last 4 reside with Petitioner." I am assuming somewhere near Greenville, although Dilmon Mote married Lovina French in "Coletown" after the Civil War.
