Thanks so much for the clue about the name change. That explains my "brick wall". I had seen that a woman from Czechoslovakia might have been an ancestor, but did not know how to further research her as I was trying Pelar. I will now try Pillar information to see how far that gets me. Most of my ancestors were either French-Canadian or Irish. I am delighted to find I now porobably have another ethnic derivation. P;ease e-mail me if you have any information about a family who lived in Washington County New York in the 1850's. Josephine Pelar, my ancestor, died young and her husband remarried.
