DNA Surname Project - Pelan, Pellan etc.

DNA Surname Project - Pelan, Pellan etc.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Pelan, Pellan, Palin

I would like to start an informal y-DNA surname project for the Pelan surname - particularly with a view to establishing its origins and if there are any connections with similar sounding surnames. It would also be useful in helping to link-up family trees where the paper trails have stopped.

As part of the project we would compare our results with other surname projects particularly Phelan and Palin.

This project would includes Pelan's of both Irish and Czech origin and indeed anyone that has a similar surname.

All participants would have to be male (obviously) and have a biological father with an appropriate Pelan-like surname. I am not recommending any particular testing company but I would suggest that you test as many markers as you can afford. Over 30 markers are best but 12 markers are better than nothing.

All you need do is get tested and then place your results here (at ancestry) and/or in ybase.org and/or ysearch.org. If you don't want them to be made public then we could probably exchange them privately.

That's it!

At the moment FTDNA are running a special offer and as a result I am prepared to pay for a 37 marker test for one suitable Pelan volunteer, provided they get prior approval from me. This offer will only last a few days.
