Hi, I am a "Pelagio", and find this to be an unusual surname. Currently, I live in Hawaii, and wonder if are there other Pelagios living in Hawaii interested in ancestry.

Hi there, friend. Just to satisfy your curiosity, i can tell you that your surname has an european origin. the spanish form is "Pelayo" (but its a first name) and the portuguese form is "Pelágio". this is a very rare family name. for instance, in Portugal only my family (mother's side) has this name. there are others, like Plágio or Plágia, but the origins are different. the story of this name began, as far as I know, with an Asturian tribe leader named Pelayo that fought the romans, many years ago, in Spain. So in that country, Pelayo is a first name, but in Portugal some of the Pelayo's descendents adopted it as a surname - Pelágio. Pherhaps we both descend from that asturian warrior =). well, I hope this was usefull to you, take care! (and i must apolagise for my english... it is a little bit rusty lol). Best regards,

Pedro.

Note: Astúrias is a spanish nothern region.
