Looking for Pekala's place of origin

Hi,

On October 1890, Jozef Pekala (born about 1868), his wife Maryana (nee Milesarki, born about 1862) and a daughter named Anna (b. 1889) arrived in Brazil, sailing from BremenHaven on ship Stuttgart.

Jozef's parents were Kacper and Maryana Penkala; Maryana's parents were Walenty Milesarki and Elzbieta Milesarki. We don't know whether they immigrated or not.

We are trying to find out the place of origin of Jozef or Kacper. The list of passengers in Brazil do not show this information. The name (originally written with a 'tail' under the letter 'e' and with a 'cut' on the letter 'l') sounds like Penkala and we have entries as Pekala, Penkala, Pinkala and even Pecala.

Since 9 out of 10 immigrants went to the USA, it is possible that relatives/descendants of Jozef and Kacper (Casper) will read this.

Best regards,
Gilberto

Sandi,

Thanks for sharing info about your folks. At this point it is hard to say if the families are related or not. It seems that most of Pekalas (under numerous different spellings) came from South of Poland areas.

Regards,
Gilberto

Thanks for your reply. All my aunts & uncles and my parents are deceased and I have very little information about their past. I have seen several different spellings too and not sure if related or not. When my grandfather came to the US, immigration officer wrote "Peter Valengi" for his name because he said "Pekala, Valentine" like they say in Europe. It wasn't until the children learned a little English that it got straightened out since my grandparents didn't speak English.

My name is Pekala Ravi. I thought that Pekala origin is from India only. I really surprised to hear that Pekala origin is from Hungary/Austria. My grand parents and their grand-grand parents are all from India only. On what basis you are saying that Pekala origin is from Hungary/Austria??? I still believe that pekala family name is 100% from Indian soil. Any feedback...

Hello all,
Valentine and Julianna are my Great-Great Grandparents via their son Raymond S. Pekala in the Hazleton PA area. I do have a good bit of information on the PA clan, but not much back to europe, except that they come from Leki Gorne, Galicia (now southern poland)
I've actually found the town on Google Earth and there are some pictures of the village there.
I have a public family tree on Ancestry.com if anyone would like to see more infomation, or please reply.

It funny, but I have heard the same story about Peter Valengi from my relatives too. mspalma21, I think we must know the same people.

Thanks,
Todd
