When and where did Peightals get into the US?
I am tracing the Peightal line from Hintingdon Co., PA back and the whole name seems to drop off the map when I get back to 1830 and earlier. Not a one in the census index. Was the name spelled different prior to 1840? I don't know the permutations of the name to try and search.

Re: When and where did Peightals get into the US?
While I don't have any insight into the question posed in the query, I do have the Peightal name in my family records. Milliard Filmore Peightal married my grandmother's sister (Nannie Elizabeth Howder). My records show he was born on November 13, 1848, in Stone Valley, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and died in Philipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania on February 20, 1911. I also have some pictures in an old family album of several Peightal family members.

I don't have Millard in my list but my Peightals come from Huntingdon Co so I'm sure there is a connection. Do you have any info on Millards parents??

Re: When and where did Peightals get into the US?
Sorry Jon but I don't. I only have some of his descendants who apparently all lived in the Philipsburg area. Have you seen the account of the Peightal couple who were murdered in 1869 near Grafton? I recorded this from an internet search of the Peightal name.

Sure did catch that! Pretty scary! That's what intrigued me into further researching the name!

Re: When and where did Peightals get into the US?
I have found several instances where P and B are interchanged. Could your family possibly be Batzel, Batsel, Baitsel, Beitzel and Paetsel all of which are used in my BATZEL family and there are a few more spellings.

I have a friend who is searching the Peightal name and lives in ND. Could you give me more info on the couple who was murdered in 1869 near Grafton. Thanks,

Re: When and where did Peightals get into the US?
I have no specific information regarding the question as to when and where the Peightals got into the US nor any information as to the murder of a Peightal couple. My only connection to people of that name is that my paternal grandmother's sister married into the Peightal family. Her sister, Elizabeth Howder, married a Milliard Filmore Peightal . My records show he was born on November 13, 1848, in Stone Valley, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and died in Philipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania on February 20, 1911. I also have some pictures in an old family album of several Peightal family members.

Re: When and where did Peightals get into the US?
After posting my reply of yesterday to the request for more information regarding the Peightal murders, I came across a citation leading to an article regarding the incident that I had included in a note attached to my PAF regarding this family. I don't recall where I obtained this citation but I'm passing it along for what it may be worth (perhaps you already have this info or were the original source): < http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cgarner/peightalsla...; p.s. I also have a list of the children and grandchildren of Millard Filmore Peightal.

The Peightal Murders - 1869
I just read the messages regarding the Peightal Murders in Huntingdon Co., Pa. I am preparing a family newsletter regarding the murders and found the Ancestry postings in research work. We are descended from the Bechtel/Peightal families who settled in Woodcock Valley, Grafton, Huntingdon Co., Pa. around 1802. I have visited Grove Cemetey where the murdered couple is buried. I will be happy to share information.
