I am really interested to find out when Peggs left UK for USA (if that is, indeed, what happened). As far as I can tell, my family originated in the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Suffolk area in UK (flat wetlands on eastern coast) and a they seem to have dominated Chatteris near Ely in Cambridgeshire for about 300 years. Did they go to USA at some point? Or is Peggs in USA from elsewhere? Can anyone in USA trace back to UK origins?

I have some reason to believe that Daniel Pegg, b. abt 1655 came from Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire. I think he came over to the US as a young man (in about 1675-1679). I don't know of any other Peggs in that area, but then I don't have access to the Lincolnshire records. Do you know of any Peggs there?

I know that another branch of US Peggs have traced their ancestors back to Sheringham (but his is on the northwest coast, isn't it?).

I believe my g.g.g.g. grandfather to be Robert Peggs b. ~1799. I believe, but am working to document, that he left Hintlesham, Suffolk, England with his wife Elizabeth b. ~1800 for North America. I believe they left with 2 sons - James b. ~1822 and David b. ~1827 and landed in Toronto, Ontario, CA. I believe another son, Robert b. 1828-1832 is my g.g.g. grandfather. Elizabeth and 2 sons, James and Robert, left CAN by 1860 and settled in the Buffalo and Niagara areas of NY, USA. I have everything documented from 1860 to present.
My grandfather left Niagara Falls, NY, USA for medical school in Ohio the 1930's and settled in Detroit, MI where 2 more generations of Peggs have since been added.

Any contributions/corrections to the earlier history of my family would be appreciated!

my grandfather was Harry MacDonald Peggs, his mother was supposed to have been Canadian but we have very little info. He was born in 1880 and lived in New York City. Any relation to your Peggs?

I am sorry, I do not believe directly. Our Peggs were in Buffalo/Niagara Falls at that time. They had come from Toronto about 1840. However, Peggs is not a common name. And for the most part I have found them to come from the Suffolk area of England. This where I have 1825 baptism certificates for the people that came to Toronto.
Keep me posted on your trail!
