John & Sarah Pegg (nw SC burial)

I'm looking for info on the two above. Rumor has it she might have been a Douthit, or maybe Dothard. It appears they may have originally been from VA, moved to KY (they had some children born there), then moved to Pendleton Dist/Anderson Co SC, where they died and are buried in Pickens Cemetery in northern Anderson County. It looks like they came from KY with several children and may have had more in SC as there are several Pegg women known to have married locally.
I don't know much about them, but anyone is always welcome to whatever I have.

Are you referring to the John and Sarah of SC or the John A. Pegg and Sarah of Greene Co. IN? Both had sons that was named James B. Pegg.

Steve:
I located some of my info and find the following:
from the DAR, I find that John Pegg's parents are:
Father: Samuel Pegg, born 1741/2
Mother: Martha Cockerman

John's wife, Sarah, might have been a Douthit and may have been born in Virginia in 1776.

I have found 3 children:
Martha F. (1808-1880)married Jacob Pickle (these 2 and several children are buried in Pickens Chapel Cemetery.
Nancy T. second wife of Robert Pickens (son of Capt Robert Pickens)(both buried in Pickens Chapel)
James Bailey who married Elizabeth Barton. I think he also married a Welborn, but I don't know whether before or after.

Please let me know if this works with your data, as the Peggs are one of my favorite "mysteries" of Pickens Chapel Cemetery and I'd dearly love to know about them. Of course, I'll share anything I have or find with you.

I'm looking for help with the John and Sarah of SC, but could they have been born in IN?
The birth date on John's tombstone is Aug 4, 1786 (no location) and died May 6, 1863 in SC. I know they lived in KY for a while, and I'm thinking based on some other info that they were born in VA, but this is not positive. I think they had several children, as several Pegg women who were the right age to be daughters of these two married into local families. Sarah might have been a Douthit or maybe a Dothard, because right next to her is buried a "Mrs Mary Dothard", born 1803 and died Jun 2 1857 -- nothing else known about her. No Dothards on 1850 census, which of course is not proof of anything. Sarah Pegg (the above) was b. Feb 1 1776 and died Aug 15, 1857. The children, as far as I can determine are James B (who was b. in Hardin Co, KY) and died here. Martha F. who married John Pickle. Nancy T. who married Robert Pickens.
And then there's an Elizabeth who married a John Wilson (Rev war vet) who might have been an older sister to John Pegg, or maybe even from a different generation. That's about all I know about the Peggs. Any help would be appreciated.

I traced this lineage back to a William Pegg 1652-1727 married a Margarita Eritorson d1727 lived in St. Neots Huntingdonshire England.
William/Margarita had a Son Named John b 3/20/1675 who married Elizabeth Scaritt
John/Elizabeth had a son named William b 1701 -1770 died in kent co. Delaware (came over denatured to a barber) married Margaret ( they started the Peggs I know)
William/Margaret had : John, Samuel, Valentine, Martin and Elizabeth
Samuel b1742 Murderkill Hundred, Kent, Delaware d. SC married Margaret Cockerman
Samuel/Magaret had John and Elizabeth

There were some Peggs that were related to Samuel Pegg (John's father) that moved to IN. John was born in N.C. and died in Pickens SC. Sarah was a Douthit born in VA.
I only know the James B. Pegg path since that is were I came from.

I'm pretty sure James Bailey Pegg was son of John and Sarah, because they are all buried in one little group in Pickens Cemetery in northern Anderson county SC. (If you care, see my website on the cemetery: www.pickenscemetery.org
Work your way thru summary list and maps to see the grouping. My experience has been families are buried together. James B's tombstone says he was born in Hardin County KY. There is a picture of it on the website under the individual graves portions, which are in alphabetical order. There is all kind of info on his wives. Did he marry Elizabeth Barton Brezeale or Elizabeth Brezeale Barton, and I think if so he married her second because my gg grandmother Welborn's sister Elizabeth also married James B Pegg, but her tombstone says she died in 1854, and there is an infant grave: Bailey McSwain Pegg, son of JB and E Pegg with the dates of Nov 26, 1862 and Sep 18 1863. Of course, Eliz. Welborn Pegg's date of death might be engraved wrong: could it be 1864 instead of 1854? But then James B's death date from the stone is Sep 26 1885, and his birth Mar 10, 1812.

I had read somewhere that John's father was Samuel, so that checks. Do you know anything more about Sarah Douthit? Did she have a sister Mary C? There is a "Mrs Mary C. Dothard buried right beside Sarah (b. 1803 d. Jun 2 1857) that I think they got the spelling wrong as there were never any Dothards around here that I can find.

I was born and raised on the old Pickens homeplace with the cemetery and have had an interest in everyone in it since I was a child. One of John and Sarah's dau's (Nancy T) was my ggg grandfather's second wife with many children (I come thru the first wife). And the Pegg girls evidently were well thought of, as they seemed to find husbands without any problems. Martha F. married Jacob Pickle. And there's another one that I can't think of at the moment.

Thanks much for all the help. You know more about the Peggs than everyone else put together that I've ever talked to. I do ask your permission to list you on the website as one of those who have helped so much (see the "About" page) and I'll make changes to the Pegg's paragraphs after things quiet down after the holidays.

Some day, I would like to visit Pickens cemetery.
Yes, James B. married twice. Elizabeth Welborn and James had a son, Capt. Samuel M. Pegg he commanded the 27th Mississippi in the Civil War. You can google him. He fought with Brantly's Brigade (Brig. Gen. WILLIAM F. BRANTLY). He fought in the battle of Nashville and I think in atlanta. Dang, just found a link that listed 8 kids from James and Elizabeth W. see www.geni.com

Just found this http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=93...
It has a lot of data about James B. Interesting link. Looks like Samuel M. lived with the Welborn's in Mississippi in 1860. Probably some time after the war he moved back to S.C. According to 1880 census he was living with James B. and half sister Taccoa Pegg another interesting link for her http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=29...
