This was my husband's paternal great-grandmother's maiden name, Sophia Peger. Sophia, the daughter, married Al Jurgens Sr. Sophia Peger came from Germany. That's all we know. Do you have any other info that can help us both with our family quest?

The only information we have is that my Great-Grandfather Micheal Peger came to the US in the early 1900's. He married Martha Mahler and settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area, where most of my family lives today. We know that he was born somewhere near the German-Hungrian border, to Micheal and Anna Peger. We we think he might have changed the spelling from Peiger to Peger but were not sure. If you have any other information please let me know.

peger/pieger family surname
We have a map that shows that same area where the Pegers lived. I'll research Pieger, too; maybe we can come up with something. Sophia Peger, Sophia Jurgens' mother, married a Von Pelz. This part of the Pegers lived all their US lives in the Chicago area.
I've been trying to research that also but got nowhere fast. Thanks for the info.

My former step-mother was a daughter of Michael Peger. He invented the push-pedal wagon, it carries patent #1,527,215, Feb. 24, 1925. The family in Germany came from a town spelled something like: Metzenseizethen. Michael remarried and had children by both wives, the second wife may have brought children to the marriage as well. There are only two surviving children as I recall. Yesterday I visited with one and her brother had visited her within the last year from out of state. Please direct inquiries through me and I will pass these along to an appropriate family member.

If you could give me the names of your step-mother and her brother i would be grateful. My grandfather only one sister and one brother still living. Also if you could give me a location in which she lives it would be benefical. If you come across anymore information I would love to hear from you. Thank you for the information you have already supplied. selena

Selena, I'm sorry it took so long to answer you but I wasn't sure of my husband's grandmother's maiden name, and IT IS PEGER. She was born in Chicago and her mother's family had a farm in Downers Grove, IL. If you wish to contact me directly, it's Kallie at xftr@nnex.net.

Re: Peger Family, Chicago Area 1870s
Is there a posibility that PEGER and PEKAR might be the same? If you try pronowncing both names--using a german accent they do sound similar. Names were recorded as they sound. Has anyone found PEGER in immigration records? There are many PEKARS from Bohemia, Hungry and Romania (Formerly Austria)
