Lois Maxine (Pefley) Brooks

March 25, 1922-July 15, 2004
Lois Maxine (Pefley) Brooks died at the age of 82 on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Bay Area Hospital in North Bend.
On March 25, 1922, Lois was the last of three children born to Frank and Martha (Miller) Pefley in Medford, Oregon.
She attended Walla Walla College from 1941-1947 where she received her teaching certificate. Lois met her husband, Howard Rollin Brooks, while in college, and they were married March 1, 1947 in Medford, Oregon.
Lois was a school teacher until having her three children and moving her family to Gold Beach in 1960. Since that time Lois has been very active with groups involving nature, giving talks on birds, writing articles for the newspaper and pursuing any opportunity to teach people of all ages the wonders of nature.
Lois was also trained in wildlife rehabilitation and often took in injured animals. Lois was an avid journal writer all of her life, documenting her daily activities and tracking all birds seen throughout the day.
She loved to spend time with her family and continued to educate them about nature. Lois had a very good relationship with God and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Survivors include two sons, Allan Brooks of Issaquah, WA and David Brooks of Gold Beach; daughter, Dorothy Davey of Walla Walla, WA; brother-in-law, Roger (sic) Brown of Kennewick, WA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rollin in 1998, sisters, Vera May in 1909 and Zella Belle Snyder in 1998.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gold Beach High School Biology Department in Lois’ name.
A remembrance of her life will be held at the Gold Beach Seventh-day Adventist Church on July 24 at 3 p.m.
