Re: PEBODY - John and Eliza
Hello Sandra, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I think we are referring to different people. My GGgrandfather, Thomas Newberry Tagg b. 1810 (St Lukes, now incorated into Holborn) married Eliza Pebody and one of their children Charles Tagg b.1850 in St Lukes is my GGrandfather. Charles married Ann Rossiter and one of their children Thomas Joseph, born 1876 in Shoreditch is my Grandfather. I think one of Thomas Newberry's brothers was John. What do you think. Kind regards, George Tagg

Re: PEBODY - John and Eliza
Hi I married a Tagg April 2005 and have been researching his family tree. I have come across this line of Taggs and might be able to help. You may already have this information.
Thomas (B:1810 Shorditch) married Eliza Peabody (B:1811 St Lukes) in 1832 Shorditch St Leonards.
In 1861 they were living at No 60 Old Street St Lukes. Thomas was a paper stainer and they had 3 children. Eliza (B:1840 Cripplegate) she was an artifical florist Amelia (B:1842 Cripplegate) Charles (B:1850 St Lukes) Scholar.
In 1871 Eliza is a widower living at No 45 Allerton Street Hoxton New Town Shorditch and is a cotton winder. Her son Charles also lived here and is an artifical florist and unmarried.
In 1875 Charles married Ann Rossiter (B:1850 St Lukes) at Bethnal Green London.
By 1881 Charles and Ann were living at 91 Debeauvoir Crescent. Charles was a Tea warehouse man and Ann was an artifical florist. They have a son Thomas J (B:1876 Shorditch).
Between 1881 & 1891 Charles disappears as Ann re-marries in 1884 to a Henry Partridge (B;1848 Birmingham) and are living in Cripplegate. Thomas on cencus as stepson he is a shop fitter. Henry is a fishmonger.
In 1901 Ann is still married to Henry Partridge living in Battersea. Henry is a store keeper.
I can not trace Thomas in 1901 and Charles no trace since 1881-1901.
Hope this might give you a tread Cheers Emma Jane Tagg

Re: PEBODY - John and Eliza
Thanks Emma, I don't think this is "my" line. My John was a Boat Builder and Eliza a Seamstress. My Peabody/Pebody's haled from Northampton, then on into Staffordshire and Shropshire, mainly as Boat Builders on the canals or Coal Miners.
Thank you just the same.
Good luck with your research.

Re: PEBODY - John and Eliza
Hi Emma Thank you very much for your effort. You will be pleased to know that this is the first positive response to my various enquiries om different boards filling in a lot of missing information on my Taggs. Much appreciated. BTW Thomas disappeared from from the 1901 census as he had emigrated to South Africa by then.

Re: PEBODY - John and Eliza
Hello George,
I have just seen your link to the Pebody name in London. I wonder if my 2 x great grandmother, Mary Ann Pebody, is the sister of Eliza.
Mary Ann was born c 1817 Clerkenwell or St Luke's depending on which census you look at. She married William Gray in 1833 in Old Church, St. Pancras. In 1841 she was living in Pinks Row, St. Lukes with William a rug weaver and their children Jane Charlotte, (christened in St. Leonards, Shoreditch,1837), Mary Ann and William. The family were living in St Vincent Street in 1837.Soon after 1841 the family moved to Kidderminster where they had 3 more children, Edward, Edgar Joseph(my great grandfather) and Charles.
I have not been able to find any information on the Pebody family at that time so if you know anything I would love to hear from you.
Regards,
Christine.
