Hi
I would welcome any help that anyone can provide regarding the above Walter Peberdy . He was born 1887 in Leicester.
on the 1901 Census he was a Hat Packer , living with his parents (Thomas and Annie nee Storer) at 83, Beatrice Road, Leicester.
There is a chance he married a Gertrude Facer in Sep 1907- Leicester. If this is the same Walter he by 1911 was Police Constable 161 which he did for 2years 117 days ( from Leicester Records Office). After that I am not sure what happened to him. There is a suggestion that he may have gone to Australia?
Many Thanks.

I think that Walter Peberdy was my Great Uncle and I believe he did go to Australia but I don't know much more than that. My father was Philip Storer Peberdy born in 1908 to Ethel Peberdy who was the daughter of Thomas and Annie (nee Storer). Does anybody have more information on this branch of the family?

Hello my name is Susan Sami (nee Groves). Today my uncle Edward Groves told me about your mother Amy Peberdy. My father John Groves was born and grew up in Guyana until the age of 21 and then moved to Trinidad where I was born.

My father (John Groves) died at age of 52 in 1984. i am trying to gather information about his days in Guyana which he very much cherished. Whenever we went to the zoo in Trinidad he would call the Alligators! which apparently one of your sisters taught him to do...do you or your sisters remember my Dad, he was son of Alfred and Rose Groves. many thanks Susan Sami

Hi Sooty

If Walter went to Australia then his wife remained in England! Gertrude Peberdy nee Facer married John Orton on 25th September 1919. She was according to the marriage certificate a widow. There was one child I know of from the Peberdy's marriage - Iris Gertrude Peberdy. I can only surmise that Walter possibly died in the Great War?

I believe Walter Peberdy did go to Australia and died in a trolley collision with a train in April 1912 near Melbourne. Walter Peberdy was described in the newspaper cutting as a married man and at the time of the accident his wife (Gertrude?) was already travelling out to join him in Australia.
