Looking for Paz family near Armea de Abajo, Lancara, Lugo, Spain

Hello. I have been researching my great grandmother and her name was Josefa Leirado y Paz, so her mother carried the last name of Paz. She was born in Lancara, Lugo, Spain in 1853. I know she had 5 siblings that attended her funeral in 1919. The names were Ramona, Manuela, David, Maria and Felisa. Of course none carried on the surname Paz, but I am hoping that someone may have come across a Paz in Lugo or a link of Paz and Leirado.

Thank you for your time and reading my query.

David

Re: paz background

Yes I know it mean peace. It originally belonged to my great grand father.

Not to disrespect but if your gonna research your family history to have to be a little open minded because you might find out things you really would prefer not too. So unless you can pin point exactly what part of spain it comes from (with respect to your side of the family, wyich is hard due to the discrimination that was going on during tthis area) most people would suggest its not a spainard last name unfortunately. At least that is what I have come to find. Because if you are using it as PAZ its latin see below for the break down and surnames through out history.

See for yourself the history of the last name. I kept it through the years it belongs to my great grandfather, now my children carrie it was well in his honor.

Last name: Paz
There are variations of this ancient surname in almost all languages, although the origins differ. The surname developed originally from the Latin 'pax' meaning peace, and as such it was a baptismal or 'given' name which dates back to the begining of history.

It is said that Puerto Rican and Portugese were approximate translations of the hebrew 'Shelomo' which itself means peace, and as such the name was given to people who converted to Christianity.

What seems to be certain is that the spelling as 'De la Paz' is a late medieval religious style taken from the title of the Virgin Mary, and given as a semi-nickname to particular devotees or sept who specifically worshipped the Virgin. The varied forms of the name include Paix and Pache (France), Paci, Pase, and Paci (Italy and Puerto Rican), Paz, Pazos, Paso, Pazo, and De la Paz (Spain) and Da Paz (Portugal). There are many dimutive spellings and these include Pachot, Paschoud, Pacelli, Pacino, Pasinetti etc, although the latter are mostly Italian, at least in origin.

Re: Conexão --Origem e raices do sobrenome Paz
