My maternal grandmother's name was Lillian Paye, she was married to Henry Duprey, they lived in Saranac Lake, upstate New York and had nine children , among them my Mother the youngest, Shirley Jean Duprey Mastroieni, my Mothers maternal grandfather's name was Alexander Paye.
My Mother recalls as a child she lived down the street (Payeville road) in Saranac Lake from a family named Snay.
My Mother had always presumed, given her fathers lineage that her mother as well must be french-canadian-the Payes? One of her elder brothers Art, had related that the name was originally Perry, and that they were related to a great naval hero, so the family he thought must be of English-Canadian backround? My Mother can't remember
her grandmothers name, she was quite young when she passed but recollects the name Akey.
Your message Jennifer posted as # 9 on 1-04-2000, obviously made a link under #2 Alexander Paye.
Do you have more information on the Payes, particularly Alexander, and or Margaret Akey?
What do you know of the Canadian history of the family? The English track?
this is facinating
Thanks
Steven
