Pretty hard to find info on the Fennely familly, but they seemed to have had exploitation rights/claims on probably nowadays totally ruined acres of nature...
The military file of our beloved Arthur is available at Kew. He never made it to a Captain rank, being caught drunk on duty. Kinda makes me proud, really;-)
Will dig out the Surinam leads in 2014 by just going there. Probably a certain African Jacoba gave birth to a Alstein/Austin slave etc. ect.

Check Mundiadotcom, register & look for te 1513 Richard Pay tree. You'll be amazed.

Percival George Pay is also my dad's name....he passed away in 2001. He too has brother George and sister Georgina. I know my dad and his family lived in Montreal for some time before coming to Nova Scotia. I have sister's that are much older than me that might be able to fill you in if there is a connection.

Arthur Pay was married to Henriette Victorine Fennelly.
She died on 28 August 1925 in Paramaribo, 35 years old.

I have an Arthur Thomas Pay listed on a family tree. He was born 22.12.1874, married Lily Ethel Whitbourn on 22.04.1922. Died 6.06.1943.

No info on where he was born or died, but the person who has been working on a book on the Pay family and passed this info on to me is: Lyn Mitchell, and can be contacted at lynmitch@netspace.net.au.

I just wanted to advise you that it is not true that "there are so few individuals named PAY".

Contrary to what you may imagine, there are hosts of Pays (including my family which I've been researching for a number of years), many of whom originate in Kent.

I had thought my surname unusual. But it's not!

My name is MAY and we are of English extraction, supposedly from Wiltshire originally.

I just got the 25 allele DNA test and one of my closest relatives is a gentleman whose surname is PAY. Our y-DNA differs by only one locus, which means chances are that we have a common paternal ancestor within 300 years or so.

As there are so few individuals named PAY, I am wondering if someone named MAY changed his name to PAY a few hundred years ago and became the progenitor of most of you folks. Something to think about if you reach a dead end, I suppose. Contact me if you find any connection.

I saw your message re Pay family. My grandmother was Rose Pay daughter of Clarence Charles Pay, she was born approx 1890. She married my grandfather William Ferdinand Hunter on the 11th July, 1909, in the District of Thanet Register Office.Kent. I am trying to find children of the marriage as I know they split up. I
know of Harry Clarence Hunter born 1910
and my dad Eric William born 17th Dec 1913.

It looks like we're related. My great grandmother was Sarah Simpson nee Stead and she was somehow related to Joseph Stead (who m Lydia Pay)

I have photos of Harold Robert stead and his wife Winnie, plus their 3 children, taken in Oshawa ontario in the 1920s or 30s. In both the photos my great grandma who was visiting from Ramsgate Kent England is with them

I just saw your message and I hope you still use this site. I'm looking for Ivy Pay. She married a Ralph Cornish in 1925. I believe her father was called William Pay.She lived in the Medway area of Kent and married at St. Marks church. Citation: Was one of a detachment of 16 men who heroically defended a wagon train against the attack of 125 cavalry, repulsed the attack and saved the train.

I am trying find any information on my great great grandmother, Lydia Emily Pay (later Stead) and her father WILLIAM PAY. They were originally of Folkestone/Ramsgate, Kent England and Lydia later moved to Australia where she died in Brisbane. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Lydia had 4 children, Harold Robert, Cyril Joseph, Spencer and Mildred, who would have used the surname Stead. Many thanks. Happy Christmas!

I'm looking for any info about my great grandfather Arthur Pay, born aprox. 1869 in, most likely Faversham, Kent, and who fought in the second Boer War around 1900 in South Africa, started as Lt., got promoted to Captain, and left to British Guyana and later to Suriname and died around 1945.
Information about SA-files, webites will be highly welcome cos it's pretty difficult to find anything on him. Thanx!

Do you have any connection to the following Pay family line? We have a brick wall concerning William Pay b. abt. 1794 married to Mildred.

One of their sons was David Pay b. 18 Dec 1819 in Charleton, Dover, Kent married to Elizabeth Mary Longthorne b. 29 Apr 1822 in Dover, Kent, England.

Found David and family in the 1871 UK census living in Hougham, Kent with wife Elizabeth-age 48, son Joseph George, age 19, son Alex W. age 16 and adopted son, John Potter, age 9.

Hope to break through that brick wall by connecting with cousins.

Pay in Kent; There is a harry Pay in a Faversham church ie a brass rubbing, dated about 1420 you will find that the name pay is in 5 countys on the south coast, the spanish raided Poole in Dorset in about 1402 looking for harry pay, and set fire to the town,,if you type in harry pay on goole you will see that there is lots to read. all the best robert pay

I am intrigued that you should think that the Pay family arrived in Kent from Shropshire in the 17th century. I can trace my line back to the Ashford area of Kent to earlier than 1600.

Would it not be more logical to suppose that many of the Pay family migrated from the Ashford area to other areas of Kent? I can certainly link some to Folkestone and I believe that Warren Pay has a view that his descendants from Dover originated in the Ashford area.

Do you know whether your THOMAS PAY had a son HENRY who married a CATHERINE HORTON in 1877? I am back as far as HENRY who was my great-grandfather from SANDWICH, KENT. I know his father's name was Thomas but mother's not known.
