I am trying to find out more about Percival George PAY and his family. He was born in 1876 in the Parish of Wimbledon, Surrey, England. Served in the British Army and transferred to South Africa Constabulary in 1901. Left the army in 1903 and then settled in South Africa until his death in 1957. He married a few times. One of the wives was Heillie Martina (nee FOURIE). He had children of his own, and adopted some as well. Names I know of are: Lily (married P.STAM), Harry, Jack or Jackie, George, Heillie (known as Maisie), Georgina (known as Dolly), Burton.
Please contact me if you have any information.

Hi,
One of my ancestors, Arthur Pay, went to South Africa the same period. Any change they are related?

Hi Robin
Thanks for the reply. I think my g.g.grandfather had a brother called Arthur. I traced back using the census, and found a household which I think is the correct one. The father was John T. Pay, married to Frances, and the children were Frank, John, Arthur, George P. Check the 1881 census. Please let me know if you think it is the correct family link. I have really been battling to get any real trace.

Hi Joy,

I've found Arthur on this site. You might be able to find your ancestor to. You have to check which regiment he fought for.

Regards,

Robin

Percival George Pay is also my dad's name....he passed away in 2001. He too has brother George and sister Georgina. I know my dad and his family lived in Montreal for some time before coming to Nova Scotia. I have sister's that are much older than me that might be able to fill you in if there is a connection.

My gg father might be from SA, UK or SA. It seems he was in SA when the (2nd) Boer War broke out. Think his full name is either William Arthur Pay or Arthur Ernest Pay.
He was a mining engineer, lost his wife Elisabeth in Kimberley, Cape in 1998 joined the bloody Boer War after Black Week OR was based in either Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg (1899-1902)
During the period1904-1907 he lived in the USA and after some trips to Barbados, Guyana (Demarra), Brazil and again to the USA...seemed to settle in Paramaribo, Surinam. He claimed to have re-discovered bauxite in 1914 & set up an industry with American capital.
Strangely enough this adventurous chap died poor.
Would be great is someone could help me out digging out his Sussex, Kent, London or South African ancestry.
Rgrds,
Robin W. Pay

In the "Lloyd's Weekly" from August 1900, "Alfred Pay calls for his long lost mother, Mrs Maling, his sisters Ada and Florence & his brother Arthur Pay, a mining engineer who has in been in South Africa 20 years" (either Arthur was 20 years old, or lived in SA for 20 years. I suspect the latter.
