Rev. John E. Pawelski, entered eternal life Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the age of 81.


Father Pawelski was born April 22, 1925, in Amherst Junction, Wis., to August and Theodosia "Jessie" (Zagrzebski) Pawelski.


He attended SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Orchard Lake and was ordained on June 3, 1950, by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.


Father Pawelski's early appointments included assistant at St. Joseph Parish, Green Bay (July 1950); St. John Parish, Menasha (August 1950); Holy Cross Parish, Kaukauna (May 1954); and St. John Nepomucene Parish, Little Chute (September 1955).


He served as chaplain in the U.S. Air Force (January 1957). He then served as assistant at Sacred Heart Parish, Manitowoc (May 1959) and administrator of SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish, Eaton (September 1959). He was assistant at St. Mary Parish, Manitowoc (January 1960); Holy Rosary Parish, New Holstein (December 1961); St. Anthony Parish, Marinette (July 1967); and St. Joseph Parish, Sturgeon Bay (June 1968).


He was appointed administrator of St. John Parish, Gillett (October 1969) and served as associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Manitowoc (October 1970); St. Anthony Parish, Niagara (August 1971); St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay (August, 1972); and SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Green Bay (July 1980). Father was appointed pastor of SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish, Eaton (July 1982).


He was appointed associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Manitowoc (July 1983), and SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Green Bay (August 1984). He was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Alverno (September, 1986). He served as chaplain at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution beginning in February of 1989. In May of 1996, Father Pawelski retired.


He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Tiedt, Madison; and 20 nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Leo, Emil and Albert; and one sister, Emily Pawelski.


Reception of the body by Reverend Monsignor Roy M. Klister will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2007, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay.


Visitation will follow until the time of the funeral Mass. The funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will follow at 10:30 a.m. Bishop David A. Zubik will be the presider and Father Michael Koch will preach the homily.


All priests are invited to concelebrate in alb and white stole. Burial will be at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Fancher (Amherst Junction), Wis. Proko-Wall Funeral Home assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the Pawelski family at www.prokowall.com.
