My great-grandfather, John Robert Patterson, was the son of Joel Patterson and Mathilda Smith. This Joel Patterson was previously married to Sarah Walton, daughter of John Walton of either AL or GA (census records in 1830 from Newton Co., MS, show her to be about 15 years younger than he. I am trying to see if perhaps this Joel Patterson had been previously married and, if so, to whom. I am trying to locate Joel's parents and/or siblings. Common family names are John, Joel, Oscar, Robert.
