Surnames: Pataki, Kerekes
I am researching the Pataki name for my grandchildren. Their mother Kathryn Elizabeth Pataki married my son David Wesley Frank. Kathy's father was Charles Joseph Pataki, son of Charles Paul Pataki and Eva Kerekes. I have very little information on Charles Paul and Eva Kerekes Pataki except that Eva was the daughter of Mihaly Kerekes who was born about 1868 and married a Miss Hunyadi. I understand that Eva was born in 1897 in Zselk, Beszterce Naszaud Megye, Magyarorszag (Hungary) and died in 1981 in Columbus, Ohio. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

My Grandmother was Elizabeth Krecsmar sister to Eva Pataki. The following information I received from a cousin Michael Borsos in January of 1982 right before he got sick and could not write any more so some the information is missing but I will share with you the information that he sent to me hope this helps. Great Grandmother (no first name)maiden name was Hunyadi she was a sister of Yarros Hunyadi who was the father of John Hunyadi Sr of Columbus and father of John Hunyadi Jr was still in Columbus OH or at least back in 1982. She married MIhaly Kerekes and they had five children all born in the town of Zselk Beszterce Naszaud Megye Magyarorszag(Hungary). The first born was Maria Kerekes was married to Michael Borsos' father (first name unknown). then there was Aunt Rachel born Raki Kerekes, my grandmother came next she was born Eizsebeth Kerekes married to Stephen Krecsmar ( he was born in a province known as "Bacska" which was a part of Hungary back then, became Serbia but is now Yugoslavia). After my grandmother was Uncle Michael known as Mihaly Kerekes and finally Eva. I will try to contact my cousin in California who is researching the Pataki line to see if she has any information she came send to you please keep in touch maybe we can help each other. Good Luck and I hope to hear from you soon.

I am so glad to hear from you. Kathryn Elizabeth Pataki Frank is my daughter-in-law, and I have been trying to trace her family tree as well as my son's. It appears that Kathy must have been named for her great-grandmother. Maybe I will have more luck, now that I know Miss Hunyadi's first name. However, I believe her surname was misspelled in the message Kathy forwarded me from her brother, Chuck (Charles Joseph Pataki, Jr.). I would love to have a picture of her, if you don't mind e-mailing it to me. Any other information you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I read your second message before I saw this one. I am relatively new to geneology so it exciting to receive this information. I am looking forward to keeping in touch with you, and will keep you posted on anything else I find. Do you live in Columbus? I live in Dallas, Texas. You probably know that my son, David, and Kathy live in Bedford, Texas, which is between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Hi Barb,
It is interesting that Elizabeth was your Hunyadi relative's name. My Aunt Betty's mother was a Hunyadi(y). And, Elizabeth is a family name. My daugter's middle name is Elizabeth, in honor of my Aunt Betty.

Barbara Are you researching the Hunyadi side of your family? Are they from ZSELYK? My great grandmother was Elizabeth Hunyadi and she had a sister Eva. They came to the US in 1909 and 1910 Elizabeth first and then Eva followed. Elizabeth maried Michael Kerekes and had 4 girls and 1 son.

Hi Barb,
Yes, I am researching the Hunyadi, Magyar, Cherney, and Dobrik sides of my family. As for the Hunyadi side, I know the Hunyadi castle is in the Transylvanian area of what is now Romania, but used to be Hungarian. My maternal lGrandmother's 2nd husband was named Geza Hunyady(this is how they spelled the name--Ellis Island mistake??). The Hunyadis settled around Pittsburgh, specifically McKeesport, White Oak, and Springdale. My Grandparents moved to Detroit, whre she fixed her neice with his nephew, so I am related both by marriage and blood. My Grandfather had at least 3 sisters of which I know. Ethel married Jozsef Toth and they raised 6 children. They lived in McKeesport. His other sister,Julia, married a Julius Yassey and they settled in Detroit, and then South Lyon, Mi., where their daughter, my Aunt Julie who turned 94 in August, still lives. His sister Marie lived with Julie and Julius until she died. My Grandfather had 5 children by his first wife, and I knew George, and his brother, whose name escapes me at the moment. But, they lived in White Oak. Hope this helps. Please let me know and thank you for replying to my posting so quickly.

I noticed in this thread you mentioned Geza Hunyady, of McKeesport, orginally from Betlar, Hungary. This is my aunt's grandfather, although we are unaware of more than one marriage. In the 1910 census he is married to Elizabeth (Nagy) for one year. They later have four children. My aunt's father was John. I hope you are still doing genealogy and are still on ancestry. I would love to 'talk' with you, Thanks, Pat
