Surnames: PATAK POLACHUK NICHOLSON HOLCOMBE
It was great to finally see the PATAK name listed. I have been checking other message lists for years and PATAK is not even listed.
My Grandfather, Michael PATAK, came thru Ellis Island in the late 1800's and eventually migrated to the Pittsburgh, PA area where he worked in coal mines and steel mills. He came from Ukrainia prior to the russian takeover, and, after a short stay in Austria, migrated to America. My father, John PATAK, migrated to Detroit, MI in the mid 30's and I migrated
to the Ft Worth, TX area in the late 50's.
The only PATAK's, other than some cousins in PA I have ever found are in Ellis County TX and OK.

I am not sure of the connection but someone in my ancestry had a name like Shadas Patak or this is a town in Hungary? I am not sure. Just thought you might know something.

Oh my goodness! I believe we are related! My great grandfather was john patak who moved to detroit in the 30s & was a tailor. 1 of his sons was frank patak who was my grandpa.. aka papoo, & he had a sister helen & a brother rudy who was disabled. Frank's son george & daughter barb still live in the detroit area. Id love to get in touch with you. Franks last christmas gift from the fam was a detailed sketch of the boat he arrived to the US on along w johns immigration paperwork that we framed for frank.
