I am searching for the origins of the "Colston Parry" Family of Bristol in the 1700's.

I have a Family tree that has been meticulously kept and handed down from each generation from: Joseph Colston Parry b.1792 m.1816 to Caroline Matilda Delatouche.

Parents of Joseph Colston Parry: William Colston Parry and Mary(?)

Anyone with common interests in the Colston/Parry families of Bristol in the 1700's please feel free to reply with anything you might know or want to confirm through my tree.

*quoted and placed here for further investigation*

I imagine William could be the son of a couple who married 27 Aug 1758 in Bristol, St James - William PERRY and Elizabeth COLSTON (the original records obviously need checking because of the surname discrepancy)

There are two marriages on the BVRI for a William PARRY to a Mary - one to a Mary BURGESS (St James 15 Jul 1781), the other to a Mary WOODEFIELD (St Philip and St Jacob 22 May 1783). But, since neither show the COLSTON middle name, they might not be relevant. William COLSTON PARRY and Mary first have children christened 25 Feb 1787, but there are three children on the same day, so it's likely two are not babies.

In case there is someone currently in a position to check the original parish registers in order to confirm the BVRI transcriptions and also to look for any additional information on the entries, I’ll list the children here as well (Adam, do you realise you should be able to view these films yourself in New Zealand, through the LDS Family History Centres?)

All christenings at Christ Church, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England (FHL Film 1596358)

Seven christenings with the parents as William Colston PARRY and Mary:
Elizabeth PARRY, 25 Feb 1787
Sarah PARRY, 25 Feb 1787
William PARRY, 25 Feb 1787
John PARRY, 3 Jan 1790
Joseph Colston PARRY, 22 Apr 1792
Mary PARRY, 6 Aug 1793
Ann PARRY, 1 Jul 1798

And then one with parents as Edward Colston PARRY and Mary:
Edward Colston PARRY, 14 Aug 1803

This final entry in particular needs checking to see if the father’s name is correct, and how it compares to the earlier entries – it is the only christening I have found so far to these parents so there is always the possibility that the child’s name has been entered for the parent’s and that, in reality, it is another child to the William and Mary.

I’m putting together some of the basic information on the rest of the pedigree, and hopefully will make it available online for people to discuss, and gradually work at confirming, over the next few days.

Regards
Barbara

Hi Adam,
I've (finally!) finished the page with most of the "Colston Parry" information that I can find in the censuses etc, and made it available online at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~parryresearch/colston.... . There is still some other information from probate records to be added but, hopefully, it will give people a start on discussing the possible relationships, as well as pointing out the evidence that needs to be gathered.

Perhaps you will be able to confirm some of the information from the tree you already have?

Barbara,

This is awesome.......I am speechless..(doesn't happen often).

I am sending you my tree to add further downline from what you have established. Might I say that all advice is being gratefully accepted, I will consult with my siblings to get them searching as well. My Brother is off to the UK later this year and should make a stop in Bristol and Wales.

I will check out the NZ LDS film you detailed, thankyou very much.

Adam
Again...the construction of the Pedigree is awesome, it really is. This is so much more than I ever imagined!

I'm glad you like the page, Adam. It's been a good opportunity to work on a method of presenting pedigrees so that researchers can collaborate on them - as I mention, there is still a lot of evidence to be obtained before the tree can be classed as proven, especially with all those Edward Colston Parrys!

I'll look forward to receiving your tree.

Barbara

Hi Adam,
I am a great-great granddaughter of Joseph Colston Parry and Caroline Matilda Delatouche. I think two of my cousins, Myrna and Diane have been in contact with you. I have just recently been in contact with a descendent of Charles Derecourt (brother of Matilda's mother, Charlotte Derecourt)and we are sharing family history. I am interested in the history you have compiled. I just want to mention that my great-grandfather Edward Colston Parry I, was married to Emma Cox on August 18, 1864, and Emma's mother owned the Swan Inn, where Emma and the children lived after being deserted by Edward. I found a picture of the Swan Inn on the internet, so bit by bit, I gather information.
Thanks,
Susan
