Thomas and Rhoda Wynn Parry were my Great, great, great grandparents. I am descended from their eldest son, William, who did not go to America with his mother, but stayed on the family farm in Blaina.
Please contact me for further info, delighted to find you.

Think my E-Mail address might be incorrect on my first message. This is the right one.

hello:

My father was born in Blaina in 1896, as was my grandmother, Tydvil Parry, born 1873. I am having difficulty tracing the Parry line back. Tydvil's parents were John, born c. 1843 at Disert, Radnorshire, and Cathe(a)rine (maiden name unknown), born 1846 at Pentrebach).

The Parry family lived in Colliers Row (where my da was born) into the 20th century. From there, I believe some moved onto Abertillery.

Are you able to offer any assistance or guidance? I am really stuck and being in Australia does not make for ease of research.

Cheers,

Long time since you posted information, so I hope you're still out there.
Are you related to Dan Parry (born in Blaina in 1894)who came to the US in 1920s or 30s? If so, we may be distant relatives. My grandfather James B Parry (Jim) was Dan's younger brother.

Hello Meryl
Picked up your e-mail from the Blaina list.
I have a James B Parry and a Dan Jos Parry as the sons of Thomas Wynn Parry, the elder brother of my great grandfather Joseph Michael Parry, all born in Blaina.
If this is correct your grandfather and mine, William, were cousins which makes us third cousins.
Do you know of the rest of the family and of our great-great-great grandmother Rhoda Parry (Wynn) moving to America. She died in 1900 and is buried in Toole.
Keep in touch.
Regards Vernon

Nice to hear from you, Vernon.
I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks and can't believe the amount of information available. I have no living relatives on the Parry side of my immediate family who would have been able to help me but, from what I've discovered so far, it looks to me as though we are indeed related. I have found Thomas and Joseph on the 1871 Census. Thomas was 13 at the time and Joseph was 9. I thought I'd hit a stumbling block when I couldn't find Thomas and Rhoda Wynn on the 1851 Census (they were there in 1841), but all was explained when I found out about them going to America in 1847.
Best wishes,
Meryl

MerylPleased to hear from you.I am pretty sure that we are related I have info on Dan Josiah Parry born1893, who went to Philadelphia and had 2 sons My mother remembered Dan coming home to Blaina on a visit when she was a young girl. He had a brother James, born 1898. Was that your grandfather?  There was also an older brother, Thomas, who went to Nantycwch in Philadelphia.Their father was Thomas Wynn Parry who married a lady called Sarah Jane Prosser. They had a large family and I have info on them and the other branches, going back to 1807.
If this ties in with the info you have please let me know.

Great to hear from you, Ann. I have no living relatives on the Parry side of my immediate family here and thought it would be a huge task to find any information at all (I've only been researching for a couple of weeks)but how wrong I was! The first census that shows my grandfather was for 1901 when he was 3 years old. It shows a sister (Sarah) who was 6, Dan who was 8, Rhoda who was 15, William (16), Thomas (19), John (21) and their parents Thomas and Sarah. I've managed to go back to the 1841 census and found Thomas and Rhoda (Wynn) Parry and their children William and Mary. From what I understand, Thomas, Rhoda and Mary went to America around 1847 leaving William at home on the family farm in Blaina. Do these details agree with what you have? I remember the excitement I felt as a young child when my great-uncle Dan came to visit, and how I was mesmerised by an accent I had only heard on visits to the cinema. It was such a magical time.
Please keep in touch,
Meryl

Meryl.
Thomas Parry died in 1865 and is buried in Blaina Churchyard. His widow ,Rhoda Wynn did not go to America until 1866.
You are descended from their son William (as am I ) who stayed on at Cwm Farm in Blaina.
William's second son was Thomas Wynn Parry, born 1859 (your great grandfather?)
I am sure that your grandfather James ,who I knew as Jim, had 3 children, a son "Parry" who lived in Cwmbran, a daughter Muriel and another son Randall, who lived in Abertillery.
Does this all fit your facts or am I getting my wires crossed? Let me know
Ann
