FAISON—Mrs. Nan Parrish Fesperman, of West Main St., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville surrounded by her family following a sudden illness.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at Faison Presbyterian Church with graveside services following at Faison Cemetery with the pastors Tim and Kathy Beach-Verhey officiating.

Nan is daughter of the late Edward and Novella Parrish of Durham and was one of eleven children. She spent her early years in Durham and the Farrington area of Chapel Hill. Her professional career began in Asheville, where as a U.S. Government employee, she supported the WWII returning veterans’ effort. Upon returning to the Durham area, she worked with the Depositor’s National Bank and later became a member of the management team that founded University National Bank.

In 1954, she married Bill C. Fesperman and they moved to Fayetteville, where she continued her banking career working with First Citizens Bank. Shortly thereafter, she and Bill moved their growing family to Garner, where Nan continued her work with First Citizens Bank.

In 1963 she and Bill made their home in Faison and soon after she entered the interior design field opening Nan’s Interiors. She had many interior design clients and restored numerous homes all over eastern North Carolina. She was a member of N.C. Preservation Society, Faison Improvement Group, and other state and local groups associated with historical preservation. She operated Nan’s Interiors until mid 2009.

Nan was an enthusiastic member of the Tea Party Ladies Club of the Red Hat Society and was referred to as the “Duchess of Faison” by her Red-Hat friends. She had an innate ability to relate to elderly members of the community and used her southern flair for conversation to entertain many friends in Duplin and Sampson County.

Nan was a member of Faison Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Bill C. Fesperman, her daughter Kimberly F. Goff of Rosewood and her husband, Billy Goff; son Chip Fesperman and wife, Karen K. Fesperman, of Davidson; grandchildren Brooke Goff, who is studying at East Carolina University, Jay Fesperman and Rebecca Fesperman of Davidson. She is survived by her sister Jane P. Glenn of Newton, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Faison Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening Dec. 9, from 7-9 p.m.

The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Faison Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 160, Faison, N.C. 28341 in lieu of flowers.
